If you visit Buffalo...two things to see: Niagara Falls, and The Anchor Bar.

The wings are big, meaty, heavy sauce type!!!...would rank the wings a "5" all day long...only reason for the "4" is due to it being more of a tourist-trap than a restaurant...but with that said, we love taking out of town guests whenever we get the chance...

Enjoy the wings!!!

“Glad to go once, but won't return....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

It's worth the experience if you want to say you went to the original wing place. We went early Sunday morning; there was even a line waiting to open. The decor is cluttered and not too clean. There's a huge menu, but it was obvious everyone was there for the wings.

The food comes out fast, which is good it you don't like to wait, but bad if you like fresh food. It was obvious that they must cook their wings prior to order and then just flash fry them as ordered. Ours were dry and there wasn't enough sauce to satisfy the need for moisture. (The mild is pretty much just a butter sauce so order medium or hot if you want flavor.)

We also ordered potato wedges and potato skins, which were delicious. Between the wings, the apps, and drinks, there was no room left at our table for the 4 of us, so it was a pretty crowded (and expensive) meal.

I"m glad we went for the experience, but if we're ever in Buffalo again, we won't make a special stop here.

“a must see”

Had lunch here and it was interesting as well as good. The staff was great and the service was quick. Great wings and sandwiches too. It was worth the few miles out of our way to visit this authentic place.

“Good times, Good wings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Had lunch here with a group of wing enthusiasts, on a rainy Saturday in early September.
OK, let's get a few things out of the way.
Yes, this place is touristy, and kitschy, - lots of motorcycles, autographed pictures, etc. all over the place.
Yes, the tables and chairs are worn, and the whole place could use a renovation.
And yes, the wings are good. Are they the best you ever, ever had? No, probably not. But based on my experience, they are really really good.
I was able to sample three flavors of sauce, - Hot, Medium and Hot BBQ. My personal favorite by far was the Hot BBQ sauce. Really excellent smoky BBQ flavor with just enough heat to keep it interesting. Didn't personally notice a huge distinction in heat between the Medium and Hot. Vinegary, spicy with Franks Red Hot, and overall very tasty. Wings themselves were crispy, and very large, with a good mix of flats and drums to the order. Temp was perfect -nothing cold at all. I ordered 10, with a nice cold beer on the side, and that was perfect for me.
We ordered fries too - suggest to not bother. Pretty tasteless and not cooked to a level I'd prefer.
Service was just fine. Our server was friendly and professional, efficiently managing a lot of tables in a restaurant that was packed to capacity.
Price was OK to my mind - about $20 per person for an order of 10 wings, the sides of fries we mostly didn't touch and a pint.
Noticed many customers having pizza here. It looked pretty good, but I didn't try, so can't comment.
If you're in town, come by, pay homage to where it all began, don't take it too seriously, and then go back to your home and have fun comparing the wings in your favorite pub to those that came from where it all started. Cheers!
