“Great Wings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Perhaps it was the history, and perhaps the wings are really that good.
What can you possibly do to differentiate chicken wings from the competition.
Their chicken wings are large, meaty, juicy (not greasy) and crispy (not over cooked).
Their hot sauce is just right.
What more can you ask for?
It was fun to eat at the place that started the concept of chicken wings and they were the best we've had.

“Great Meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

My family while passing through Buffalo stopped for lunch. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, the service was prompt. The pizza we ordered was probably the best my family had ever had. We had the mild wings (Anchor Bar was the first to serve Buffalo chicken wings) which were excellent. The anchor chips were delicious too.

Nothing fancy but the food was very good. Free parking too!

“Pilgrimage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013 via mobile

Imagine going to Italy and visiting the place where the first pizza was made, Germany and visiting the birthplace of the first Hot Dog. This is such a place. In the food business it is very hard to be a trend setter. So this is not really about the wings though they were great. It's not really about the service, though Liam was wonderful in a New York Kinda way. It's not about the price, though it's hard to feed 3 people for less than $50. It's about visiting an original, a landmark and enjoying the experience. If you're ever in Buffalo, this place is a must

“Greasy and not the best "sorry Buffalo"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

Have been to this bar about 5 years ago on a Sabres game trip and this time to see a Bisson's AAA baseball outing.
In general the food was okay this time. We ordered the mild wings( nothing special-dry and greasy and pricey) and the pepperoni and cheese pizza( lots of cheese- pepperoni was cuped and full with oil) Bisson's burgers were great but expensive at $14. The cesear salid was a disappointment. The best deal is the $3 draught beer.
Do not got to Buffalo just for the wings here, if your tagging it with shopping or a game it is okay but pricey! Not a fan of 15% gratuity added to bill for large groups, I like to tip waitress directly. I believe you get better service and the Anchor Bar ownership should give their staff an incentive.
Next time in Buffalo we will try something different for food or wings.

“Pure delight - touch of heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

I wasn't sure if this place would be that good - i mean, there are buffalo wings all over and I've had plenty of the slimy kind even if the flavor is good. The Anchor Bar does them just right - they are crisp and perfectly cooked with whatever heat you like in the sauce. Just fantastic, and to sit in this place was a treat. A true joint - decent prices too, including at the souvenir stand. We are totally into local joints, so don't expect anything fancy here. I would love to go back when I'm in Buffalo again.
