I just love the tralf. It is such a wonderful and comfortable place to go. I enjoy the venue!
Each and every time I attend a show, I couldnt ask for more. The sound is excellent.

“Famous musicians play here.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

This place is very cool inside and has many tables and chairs for seating and eating if preferred. The only problem I have experienced several times is the air comfort. It gets very hot in there and there seems to be no circulation.

“Great place for live music.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

Was here to see The Fleshtones, Southern Culture on the Skids and Los Straightjackets. What a great venue to see live music. Nice layout, good acoustics, great service, decent food and Guinness for 6 bucks a pint. Reverend Horton Heat will be here in January and so will I.

“Treat Yourself to the Tralf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Downtown Buffalo, New York, enjoys a variety of theatre venues in a concentrated area. I was familiar with Shea’s Performing Arts Center and the Smith Theatre from prior visits to the city but never noticed the Tralf Music Hall until walking past the sandwich board sign on Main Street this past weekend. This live music concert venue is located on second floor (stairs or elevator) of the Acquest Building formerly known as Buffalo Place. While the second floor concert hall is older, the ground floor of the building has undergone extensive renovation and appears to be in the final stages.

How could I have missed it in three prior visits? According to the photographer set up in the lobby to take pictures of concert-goers, the venue celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2012. Pictures on the second floor hallway feature numerous past performers including Leon Redbone, BB King, and Kris Kristofferson. The concert club was winner of the 2012 Buffalo Music Award for Best Concert Venue.

The May 24 event was “An Evening of Elegance: A Musical Tribute to Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston.” Tickets were on sale when the doors opened at 7:00 p.m. and reasonably priced at $25. Seating is general admission, first come-first served. Those guests belonging to the Tralf Club
($50 annual membership) enjoy early admission and choice seating.

I was pleasantly surprised to see cabaret-style seating with tables for 2 and 4 on the ground and elevated levels in addition to stools and counters. Well-dressed patrons filtered in anticipating a memorable evening. We were not disappointed. Oscar’s Orchestra provided the musical accompaniment. Oscar is an accomplished guitarist and supported with percussion, saxophone, keyboard, and violin. The performers sang several notable songs from each artist. The volume was my only complaint about the tribute. It was so loud, the lyrics were sometimes distorted. I started to cover my ears toward the end. My waitress noticed and brought me a package of earplugs. I left before the last tribute to Whitney because it was too loud. The volume detracted from the performance; the size of the hall does not warrant leaving with ringing ears.

The Tralf has a varied menu from The Tralfmadore Café with prices in the $7-$11 range. I ordered the $9 marinated, grilled Chicken Skewers (5) served with fresh red and yellow peppers and cherry tomatoes. The chicken was hot, tender and flavorful. A diet Coke was priced at $2.00 with a free refill. There is an extensive bar menu, too. The waitresses were busy all evening.

Restroom facilities are adequate; the venue is handicap accessible with an elevator to the second floor; ramps lead to the hall. Those with special needs are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the doors open, generally one hour prior to the performance.

Tralf Music Hall has an impressive and varied lineup scheduled: Poetry Slam; Summer Jam (performances by students of the Guitar Factory); New Orleans Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band; the Zombies, Dru Hill and jazz legend, Dr. Lonnie Smith, to name a few. If Rockabilly is your thing, do not miss the “Rebel Tuesdays Hi Octane Rockabilly Party” every Tuesday through June 11 @ 7 p.m.
Enjoy free admission and “cheap beer.”

Tickets are available through TicketMaster, WalMart and the Tralf Box Office-Theatre Plaza at 622 Main St., Buffalo 14202. Phone: (716) 852-2860. Box office hours: M-F 11 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. $1 service fee for box office purchases. All events are ages 21+ admitted unless otherwise noted on the website: www.tralfmusichall.com.
