“Older zoo that is worth a view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

The Buffalo zoo is worth the trip. Where else can you be entertained all day for $8? The bear exhibits are empty but as the signs will tell you.....bigger and better things are coming. We enjoyed the sea lion and elephants and all the other animals. Even when bus loads of school showed up the park felt like it was spacious and uncrowded.

“A day at the zoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

Perhaps a lot smaller than some BiG city zoo's but you are not going to pay those BiG city admission prices either. Over the past several years, this zoo has put a lot of money into it to try and capture the realistic environmental surroundings that the animals would romp in. It's a nice full day of exhibits and animals. There is picnic areas or palces to purchase hamburger stand type food.

Thanks for your review. You got it exactly. We're not the Columbus Zoo or San Diego and we can't pretend to be either. We're 23 acres and we strive to do the most we can with that space, making it possible to see animals a lot closer than you might in some of the larger institutions. You can spend a really filling 2 to 3 hours with us and still have some energy left for other attractions during a visit to the city.

“Nice Zoo for half day excursion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

My husband and I had a nice visit to the Buffalo Zoo on August 11, 2012.
It was very clean, which gives it 5 stars in my book. The rainforest is a must see, as someone else mentioned. We walked in and were greeted by a duck walking toward us. It was pink and white with a long bill with a flattened tip. After a face off with us, it flew into an enclosure, complete with alligators (crocodiles ?). Quite a memorable display. Unfortunately some of the exhibits were empty, because the zoo plans a larger arctic display I think. Also it was quite hot, so they may have been in their caves. The Polar Bear was quite active in the underwater display. The plantings in containers were huge. I wish I knew what they used for fertilizer. It is a nice family Zoo.

Thanks for your thoughts. We're glad you enjoyed yourself in the Rainforest. You are right, there are a few empty exhibits and they are slated to become construction projects in short order. First up will be a new entrance off our parking lot which will replace the old children's Zoo barns. Once that is done, we will completely rebuild the large bear exhibits into an arctic themed exhibit featuring Polar Bears, Lynx, Arctic Fox and more.

“Just an okay kinda day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

We got there at 2:00 and had no idea it closed at 5 so I would def. rec. getting there earlier! We didn't see many animals. Granted, the zoo was clean, people were nice, etc. but very few animals were out and about. What was the best part was the rainforest exhibit. Very cute! I took my 4 year old and 6 year old boys. I would say it was the perfect age and they did have a cute play ground "fisher price" play ground area for the little kids. They had a height restriction though and a person measuring the kids as you entered. There was a cute train and carousel but they each were an additional cost and we really didn't have the time to go on them. Just being honest, I've gone to much better zoos with ALOT more animals.

Thanks for your input. We don't pretend to be as grandiose as Zoos as you might see in some larger cities. The animal population might not be as high as we want to give them as much space and room as is possible. GIven our size, it really doesn't take more than 2 to 3 hours to see everything. The trade off there is that you are a lot closer to the animals and you aren't worn out for whatever else you might be thinking of for your day.

“Our zoo needs help”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

Lots of closed/empty exhibits, really needs bolstering to keep it around longer. Sad that there isn't more compared to other zoos

Hi Jules, thanks for your thoughts. You should know that the bear exhibit (the one right up front) is indeed mostly empty as we prepare for more construction. Our former childrens zoo is going to become a construction zone later this month, beginning of next at the latest to start turned that into our new entrance. That should be complete by Memorial Day next year. Once that is done, we immediately will turn our attention to that bear exhibit and the gift shop in front of it. Those areas will be torn down and replaced with a brand new exhibit. We haven't repopulated either one since we didn't want to disrupt any animals with the new plans.
