On the corner of Colvin and Hertel, this building held the much-loved Mastman's Delicatessen for many years. While Joe's isn't a kosher deli and has a different take on things...it is one of the best sandwiches in town. The old deli would be proud of this place. They smoke and cure some of their own meats, the soups made from scratch, offer good potato and pasta salads. It has a simple dining area that is always pretty full, with a full takeout line as well.
My favorites include: Muffaletta (salami, ham, olive spread), Jimmy's Cuban, 1322 Original (Pastrami on rye, like the old days) , The Hangover (fried capicola, fried onions n peppers, fried egg, lettuce, tomato), Hertel Alley (ham, pork loin, honey mustard, coleslaw), 'The Lunchbox" (Bologna, American Cheese, crushed Fritos, ketchup, mustard)..... and my absolute favorite: "The Body" (Pork Loin, Ham, Pickled Carrots, Jalepeno, topped with fresh Cucumber Slices, Cilantro, Sriracha Mayonnaise)
Lunch gets busy, so give yourself a little time if you don't call ahead.
