This was my first time to the Medora musical. The North Dakota Badlands, which serve as a backdrop to the outdoor theatre, are spectacular. The production values were high, the seating and the rest of the facility are up to date, and the choreography was solid. However, the singing was average to weak; the show was poorly paced, being relentlessly frenetic; the volume was too loud; and overall the show seemed dated. It might be enjoyed by someone who hasn't seen much live theatre or who enjoys reruns of Lawrence Welk. Earlier this year I attended my first musical review done by a high school in suburban Minneapolis. The singing and dancing in that show was better, and the show storyline was more interesting. Although I enjoyed my day in Medora, taking in the Badlands and the other local attractions, I'm not likely to attend the Musical again.
