“Not bad, but I wish we'd stayed at the historic Rough Rider Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

I had never stayed at an AmericInn. I found it on Trip Advisor. The location was good. You could easily walk across the railroad tracks to the cute little town of Medora. The Theodore Roosevelt National Park is only a couple of minutes drive.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The TV channels did not match the list in the room, but the staff at the front desk helped us find the Alabama football game.
They did not have an exercise room, but there was an indoor pool and a hot tub. Both were clean and nice.
The hot breakfast was biscuits and gravy and rubbery eggs. They do have yogurt and hard boiled eggs for the health conscious, like me. it is all self-serve.
We had dinner at the historic Rough Rider Hotel which was downtown. I wish we'd stayed there instead. It was charming.

Room Tip: The elevator is not close to the front desk. Our room 203 was just above the front desk, so we had...

This hotel seemed fairly new to me. The rooms were bright and clean . The free breakfast was in a separate room which had enough tables to accommodate everyone with the typical breakfast foods. The lobby had a computer for guest use and there was free wifi in the rooms. Coffee and hot water for tea were available in the lobby with a few tables, as well as a sitting area with a TV. The pool was indoors and spacious. The employees were helpful and friendly. I would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone in the area. Right outside Teddy Roosevelt National Park.

My wife and I spent three nights at the AmericInn in Medora. In a town where nearly all of the buildings are of an Old West design, this motel sticks out. It is, I suppose, on the 'wrong' side of the tracks - literally and figuratively. It is tucked just off the downtown and across the sometimes busy train tracks. It is a modern clean motel with all the conveniences. When we were there the exercise room was marked "coming soon" and it had a couple of other things that seemed to mark it as not quite complete. We enjoyed our stay there and had no complaints other than the high cost of a room (more than $180/night, before taxes). Medora is a very expensive place to stay in a motel and the options are limited. Stock up on groceries and any medications as there is no grocery store or pharmacy (as I was told "you must drive 35 miles east or west on I90" for either). The Theodore Roosevelt Park is remarkable and well worth a visit and we found it more interesting than the Badlands of South Dakota.

Our room was clean, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. We liked that the breakfast area was away from the front lobby area. Everything in the room worked (remote, microwave, etc.) which should not have to be a high point, but have stayed elsewhere that these things did NOT work, and that is annoying. There were ample electrical outlets to recharge our phones, etc. The pool and spa were well-maintained and had ample seating AND towels provided. Was a little pricey at $150 for a regular 2 Queen room but we expected that. We really liked the decor of the lobby and that they provided coffee 24/7. Overall a good stay.

We stopped here overnight on our way to Oregon. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the hotel was very nice and we had a pleasant stay. We were thrilled with Theodore Roosevelt National Park, beautiful scenery, tons of buffalo and prairie dogs! The little town was a lot of fun to walk around too! The only sad part was we left our son's favorite hoodie in the room when we left :(

When we arrived we took the stairs up to our second floor room and they were covered in dirt. The stairs and hallways looked as though they had not been cleaned in sometime. The room was far from clean. Finger prints on furniture, the top blankets on the beds had dirt spots and bathroom floor we covered in towels just to walk on. The bottom of the tub was stained black. We also would not take our shoes off in the main areas. The room was re-done but not kept up. Its was our discovery that in the off months that this hotel has heavy usage from oil workers and you could tell. The pool was terribly over chlorinated. The hotel was short staffed in every area. Breakfast was a mad house and we were there in the middle of the week! There were no forks, sugar or regular size plates. The food was ok and what I expected from a hotel chain.

I would never stay here again. When you pay almost $200 per night for a hotel you expect way more than this less than mediocre facility. Drive the 20 miles to Dickinson pay $120 per night and stay in a much nicer facility.

Room Tip: no suggestion - stay somewhere else

Great Place! Clean and Friendly.... My room was fantastic with! Was looking forward to a hot tub after a day of traveling and I did not even have to leave my room. The breakfast was perfect! Can not wait to bring my family back.
