“Great Garden Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

A wonderful experience for our family. Very close to the Grand Canyon so an easy drive in our rental. The kids loved it. Front Desk staff was very sweet, wake up calls were placed on time (can't even tell you how many times other hotels forgot to call and we missed activities/flights).
We will return, should we go to the Grand Canyon again. Thanks!

A spacious, well appointed hotel a few hours from the Grand Canyon & surrounds. The rooms are large and there's a super indoor pool and gym for those inclined to exercise. Business travellers are well catered for with spacious desks and internet connections in the room, as well as a small business centre near reception. A delicious hot and cold buffet breakfast is offered at reasonable rates.

Convenient location for travelers and a great breakfast. Close to shopping, banking, dining, and gasoline stations. Staff and management made being stranded less stressful by helping with road condition reports, cleaning snow off cars, and digging out.

I stayed here two nights on a business trip and my body was aching those two days. The beds are very uncomfortable. They are not just firm, but are thin without a topper and you can feel the pressure of the springs on your hips, back and shoulders.

Also, another reviewer wrote about this already, but the springs on the bathroom and closet doors to make them automatically close is really inconvenient. The bathroom never "airs out" after taking a shower because fresh air can't enter with the door closed, and you have to prop open the closet doors to access your suitcase and clothing that is hung up.

Lastly, there were chunks of food (crackers, I think) in between the bed and nightstand. Just disgusted me a little.

The TV was very nice, but if you ask me, they should have purchased cheaper TVs and spent the money to replace the mattresses. And take the springs off the doors.

Dear IntlTraveler_17

Thanks for taking the time to write a review about our hotel. I know many people read reviews and take a cue from guests like you.

I am sorry you had an overall bad experience at our hotel. Sorry you thought the beds weren’t comfortable. We’ve recently upgraded our beds and now have brand new Garden Sleep System beds in our King bedded rooms and hope to have all our double beds replaced by the end of 2010. I’m confident you will get a great night’s sleep next time.

We think we’re in a great location – and our guests love our proximity to the Grand Canyon, NAU and all the other wonders of Northern Arizona.

We hope the next time you are in Flagstaff you will give us another shot. We’re eager to show you our hospitality!

I selected this hotel from the vast array of choices in the area based on the reviews seen here. As others reported, the staff were exceptionally friendly and efficient. My check-in may have been the fastest I've ever experienced. I tried the breakfast buffet one morning to save time, and it was quite good, but a bit expensive at $11 for the amount of food I could eat. Coffee was only fair, but I'm very picky about that. The next morning, I walked a couple of blocks up Milton, crossed the street, and went to the Campus Coffee Bean - excellent coffee and good fresh food at half the price. The location is extremely convenient to restaurants and freeway access. I was able to qualify for a highly discounted rate, which made the stay an excellent value.

My room was quiet and comfortable, and the heat worked well in the 20 degree weather.
Having an in-room refrigerator and microwave was a nice bonus for leftovers from dinner. Internet worked very well. The only thing I could complain about was that the bathroom door automatically closed; not a serious problem, but I like to listen to the TV news in the morning while getting ready. I propped the door open with the trash can.

There is also a laundry facility in the hotel, although I didn't need it for my short stay.

The fitness room has a limited selection of equipment in a small but usable room - it was just okay.
