“Wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2011

Let me start by saying that I am EXTREMELY picky about beds. I have horrible arthritis in my legs and back and require a bed which is firm but also soft. I sleep on a pillow top mattress at home and if the hotel I stay in does not have a mattress that is comfortable to me I don't have a very nice time. This hotel was a great experience for me.
I stayed at the Hampton Inn East in Flagstaff for 4 nights at the end of May 2011. Our party had two rooms, one room with a couple in their 80's and our room both of us over 50. We had never been to Arizona before so this was our first trip. We found the Hampton to be delightful. Beds were super comfortable, the room was extremely clean, fresh towels everyday, linens fluffed and beds made everyday. Service at the front desk was super and they were always willing to help and were friendly. Some had commented about "train noise" and there is a sign at the front desk about it but we didn't find it disturbing. I think unless you are an EXTREMELY LIGHT sleeper this is a non issue. The continental breakfast was good and sufficient for our needs. One of our party fell on the last day (not at the hotel) and required crutches. The hotel doesn't have a wheelchair but they did allow us to use one of their office chairs to get the guest to the room. As I said, they were extremely helpful. This is a great location for exploring and a good base of operations, if you will. We went to the Grand Canyon, Snowbowl, Painted Desert, Verde Canyon Railroad, Senoda and downtown Flagstaff and found this to be an excellent location to base our trip from. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again should I ever go back West.

We are members of Hilton Points. This was the most expensive (143.00) and our most disappointing of the trip. Very noisy, but we realize you can not move the trains. We were disappointed to see that there was a prescription pill on the floor by the worn sofa. We also found "nail clippings??" on the floor by the desk. Our coffee maker had water in it, and we had to crawl under the end table to plug it in, only to find that it just did a small drip drip, not working at all. Breakfast included GREEN bruised bananas and limp french toast. We observed two other guests have issues with the waffle maker (dough stuck inside). A sign informed all that the Hot tub was not operational either. Next time, I will spend more time researching Trip Advisor and not get our points.

The rooms were smaller than average, but since we were basically just traveling thru, this was not an issue. We left early in the morning (before breakfast was out) and was quite impressed by the fact that a staff member who saw me load up the car went out of his way to make us some breakfast bags to go. How nice was that!!

My only negative comment is that I booked two rooms and only got Hilton Honors points for one of them. The terms and conditions clearly state you can get credit for both rooms booked. This has happened in the past (another Hampton Inn) and after I contacted HHonors directly it was fixed. But clearly there's something in the process that doesn't let this happen automatically (as it should).

Spent one night here en route from LA to ABQ as part of 2 week, multiple stop, road trip.Heard train noise in room multiple times. Old-style TV surprised us--did not think any hotels still had these. Door to room was hard to open. No hook on door in bathroom for robe, etc. Smelled smoke in hallway-very strong smell. Bed was not comfortable. Breakfast was sparse--no fat free milk, no bananas. Staff seemed pleasant enough. Close to a Village Inn and Days Inn. Did not stay here last time in Flag. Probably will stay elsewhere next time in Flag.

Room Tip: Train noise is a problem here--no escaping it.

We stopped here on our way back from Zion. I've always loved hampton inns and this one was no exception. The staff was very nice. The pool was excellent. And the breakfast was great. All that and it wasn't much more than other chains. Whenever we see Hampton Inn it's our first choice. We didn't visit the grand canyon from this hotel so I can't comment about that but we did visit sunset crater and the waptuki pueblo and both were very close to the hotel (15 minutes?). There were plenty of restaurants just a few minutes away and it's near the freeway. Location is great.

This was my first stay in an Hampton Inn hotel and it was very pleasent. The staff were friendly, rooms were clean and well stocked and the location was convenient for a numbers a things (especially if you're on route to the Grand Canyon). The noise from the trains passing in the night was loud at first (it also woke me up a few times), but it you're not a light sleeper this shouldn't effect you. On the whole, I would recommend.

Pros:
-Exceptionally friendly and helpful check-in staff.
-Clean and quiet room.
-Spacious and unique bathroom.
-Good location.

Cons:
-No microwave/mini-fridge for the standard price.
-Lumpy, uncomfortable pillows.
-Low water pressure out of shower head.

Not being aware that Flagstaff has two Hampton Inns we ended up at this one by chance. The man that checked us in was amazingly friendly. He actually offered us bottled water! We have never had that happen before and it made us feel appreciated. He asked us which floor and how close to the elevator we would like our room to be! Again, I think this was a first for us. Finally, he offered to provide us with written directions to the restaurant we inquired about. Just fantastic service. This is obviously an older Hampton Inn, but the biggest clue is the decor and not the wear. Our room was on the 3rd floor. It was clean and quiet. I realize there is a train that runs through town, but I didn't hear a train at any time during the stay. The mattresses were comfortable, but the pillows need to be replaced. They were lumpy and unsupportive to the point of being uncomfortable. The bathroom was unique in its layout and was very spacious and enjoyable. The shower head lacked an adequate amount of water pressure. We arrived at midnight and asked for late checkout, and we were not bothered by housekeeping at any time in the morning despite our late departure. The free WiFi worked fine. Overall we were very pleased and would stay at this location again.
