The Weatherford is interesting, like the adage "may you live in interesting times." My husband and I stayed there on a summer trip in June of 2004.
Plusses: Great downtown location within walking distance of Flagstaff attractions. The price is right and the desk staff is very helpful. The restaurant offers on-site entertainment with both a restaurant and a bar. If you want an historic experience, you are coming to the right place. You genuinely will feel as if you're on a cross-country stagecoach stop.
Minuses (and, to their credit, the staff was completely upfront about the following when we reserved): The rooms and baths, although adequately clean, are very small by 20th century standards. The train tracks are only a block away and the freight trains run throughout the night. It sounded like everyone was having a great time in the bar downstairs . . . the noise competed with the freight trains until 1:00 a.m. After 1:00 a.m., the trains nicely held their own.
The in-hotel restaurant has an above-average-cozy ambiance, and the food was satisfying and well-presented, although the menu was not outstanding. As to security, on the night we stayed, a domestic dispute raged on and off in the hall. This may have been a one-time event but we had trouble locating the night guard, which gave us some pause.
The Weatherford gave us a memorable night overall, but I suspect we'll try a competitor or two before staying there again.
