“weekend stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

Room was okay. Needed better pillows, had slight odor in room, but ok. Needed a refrigerator, which is pretty standard in motels.Bathroom small, but worked. Place was quiet, for the price, it was fine.

AAA should be ashamed! We stayed here specifically for its AAA listing, assuming it was of a certain quality or at least as advertised. When we checked in I asked about breakfast and assured that was included and was told it was served after 6. In the area next to the reception there was all the equipment for breakfast. When we came down the next morning we were informed they were under renovation and they would give us a bag with an apple and a Danish. I related my conversation at check in the night before and the man said that he had talked to that receptionist about her misleading others before! And she still has a job!?

We had just came in from Phoenix at midnight and so exhausted and by chance this hotel offered the lowest hotel rate with AAA. Despite the renovations we stayed in what was a newly renovated room it was surprise despite being told at the front desk we would have a microwave & refrigarator. Come to find out from, Majol front desk agent, that she was just told this morning that mico/fridge were being ordered. Also that the breakfast offered were in paper sacks that were stored from who knows how many days in storage area behind the desk agent. I decided NO THANKS. Now being a day after our hotel stay being charged for a carpet stain that housekeeping decided we had done. At no time did I see a BLACK CARPET STAIN. So beware of this hotels new renovations, you also get charged for something you did not do upon check out.

Room Tip: Room 228 with the big black stain.

This motel's location is excellent if you are doing anything on the NAU campus and, sadly, that's all it has going for it. What a disappointment! We stayed here last summer and, at that time, it was pretty decent so I decided to book rooms last September for the NAU graduation this Spring. I knew they were going to be doing renovations during the winter but was told it would be done by Spring. As stated by Brenda B., we had no notification that renovations weren't completed until we checked in and at that point we had no options. Because the lobby wasn't completed we had "bag" breakfasts. OK, better than nothing BUT why not coffee? The Wi-Fi was as good as non-existent. We had multiple computers with a variety of operating systems in our group so it wasn't the "user". IF you were able to get on their network it was so slow it would time out before you could do anything. The staff would re-boot the routers but it didn't help. We were told at the front desk that the equipment was old and management wanted to finish the rooms first. Bad call!! Why not do what you can to make the stay of those who DO choose to stay with you during the renovations as pleasant as possible so they remain loyal? Ooops, did I say "choose"? I do wish they had notified us months ago that they weren't really going to be ready for guests in early May so we could have made different arrangements. The final straw for this 3 night stay was that on the third morning they ran out of "breakfasts". So, couldn't they count their guests or WHAT? We KNOW they were at least 7 bags short and since we were there before 7:00am there were probably others who missed out too. I was told that they had enough to start with and they'd just all been handed out and, gosh, "someone" had even "grabbed" up 5 all at once implying that perhaps that was one of the reasons they were short. DUH! Did you check their room numbers? Were there 5 guests in that party? Did you check that they were even guests? Did they come in off the street? I still find this last straw to be totally unacceptable and someone should have seriously received some counseling over this. Perhaps the motel owners need to either go to or send employees to some of the NAU courses on Guest Services and Hospitality Management.

Room Tip: Verify renovation completion by calling and/or reading most current reviews.

We choose this hotel for location, WiFi, and breakfast and made an online reservation while driving. Neither WiFi nor breakfast was available and the room price was not adjusted to account for this.

The hotel is undergoing renovations - not mentioned online. The parking lot, lobby, walkways were unacceptable. To reach my room, I had to walk by dozens of toilets, bathtubs, wet mattresses, etc. in the parking lot. The lobby was a disaster, with a card table for check-in. The rest of the parking lot was filled with construction debris, trash containers and other renovation equipment. It was very hard to drive through the parking area.

The WiFi did not work, so I was unable to access the internet - a major inconvenience since I had work to do. The front desk person texted the manager about this, and nothing was done, no follow up, absolutely nothing. I have good computer skills, and neither of my two computers were able to access, the service was non-functioning.

Because of the renovations, there was NO breakfast, not even coffee. We found this out only after we'd paid. This was not mentioned on the website and the big marquee out front stated FREE BREAKFAST and FREE WIFI.

Of the two chairs in the room, one was so grossly stained, I would not even put my suitcase on it, let along sit on it - seriously nasty. The other chairs springs were so damaged, you were practically sitting on the floor.

The website says you get a refrigerator and microwave. Apparently this is not true, and you must request a room with it. Since I reserved online, I was not aware or able to make this request.

All in all - a really bad experience. Avoid this place. SHAME ON ECONO-LODGE for letting their name stay on a crummy place like this.

Not that it really matters, but the TV were ancient, and so blurry I could not watch it. Very lame these days.

This was the worst motel experience I have had in a long time. And I was just returning for a tour of fleabags in Mexico.

Room Tip: Choose a room at a different hotel.

Stayed at Flagstaff econolodge for two nights as stop off to Grand Canyon visit.
Budget hotel, room ok but a bit dated, with old TV and fridge in room, shower was good but very low, also toilet low, wifi was very poor, no breakfast as advertised due to refurb in reception)
If your on a budget and expect basic stay here, if not don't.
Location was ok for restaurants and local amenities.etc.

we stayed there on our way back from our yearly trip to KY, as we wanted to see Sunset Crater. We got worried when we saw it was right in the University area but it was quiet, and sleep was good. Staff was VERY friendly and helpful. Room was small but clean. Place was going to be updated but it was still nice and simple.

Room Tip: rooms along the back are quieter than those near the street
