My wife and I are currently staying at the brand new Drury Inn and Suites in Flagstaff. When we checked in, we were very impressed, both with the appearance of the building and our suite. We have a king suite, which is comparable to any Embassy Suites we've stayed in, minus the open lobby design with windows in the suite overlooking the lobby. We were somewhat dismayed at the "kennel" atmosphere in the lobby. There are lots of families with dogs, and of course dogs like to bark, whine, and growl at other dogs, even in hotel lobbies. Apparently Drury is a pet friendly hotel, so that should be expected at any Drury. Other than the pooches, however, the room, etc. were extremely well appointed.
Now for the dissappointment-breakfast. We arrived at the breakfast area, expecting something similar to a Hampton Inn, where we often stay. The food selection was similar to a Hampton, but that is where the simlilarities stopped. None of the tables had been wiped off since the previous evening's reception and the floor had not been swept. Every table we tried to sit at had sticky glass marks on it and the floor had popcorn all over it. Everything, and I do mean everything, at the food area was cold. Cold gravy, cold sausage, cold danishes, and cold eggs-and not just lukewarm-COLD. We happened to sit next to a very nice person who was a manager of a Drury Inn in the midwest. He was quite disgusted with the presentation and cleanliness as well. He said that he was on vacation, and trying not to work, but couldn't help but give this hotel a poor critique.
We booked this hotel thinking it would be very nice, and a comparable alternative to the Embassy Suites down the road. Unless things improve tomorrow morning, it looks like we're back to the Embassy the next time we're in Flagstaff. Hopefully this is just growing pains.
