“An Enjoyable Hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Red Mountain is about 30 minutes from Flagstaff. The ride there is scenic and in the shadow of Humphrey's Peak. The trail in is of moderate grade but can easily be done comfortably in a couple hours. The trail up contains a variety of desert plants and vegetation, plus ponderosa pines, junipers and pinyons. At the base of the mountain is a lava cone, which you can climb up and into. You can also explore trails and crevasses at the foot of the mountain. Bring your camera, because there is a lot to photograph.

“Beautiful ending!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Worth the easy hike to the end. Make sure you go up the ladder and continue. It is stunning with the rock formations just gorgeous. The rock will remind you of the Sedona area without all the people around!

“Dreamscape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Can you imagine an ocean desert? That's what the Red Mountain Trail feels like--alluvial. Awash in soft, red sand, surrounded by Pinon, Juniper, Ponderosa Pine and a bounty of herbs and plants. The 1.5 mile hike leads you an open vista, staring at the bulge of what was a one million year old cinder cone. The glassy rock formations and HooDoos are like a sci-fi landscape.

“Easy trail, great for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This is a beautiful trail. There were so many elements of nature to enjoy. It's fairly level, so it's great for the whole family, and pets. Don't park by the road, drive into the inner parking lot.

“Great Little Hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

The Red Mountain Trail takes you through Pinon and Juniper to Ponderosa Pine on 1.5 mile hike to an one million year old cinder cone. Inside the cone there are beautiful rock formations and HooDoos. The elevation climb is only 200 feet over the 1.5 mile making it an easy hike.
