“Great Overnight Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Our family arrived in the late afternoon after a long days travel. The check in was both quick and welcoming. Our rooms had recently been refurbished, new carpets, beds and a fresh paint. Soon after we arrived it began to snow quite heavily as such with night fast approaching nearby takeaway pizza and a six-pack was all we required. Excellent brief stay in a newly renovated room, early am we were on the road again well satisfied with our choice of the Highland Inn.

Looking for budget lodging for Flagstaff can be a bit of a challenge. Was here for a couple days and looking to save a few bucks over the newer chain places in town, and also want to be walkable to the downtown area. There were a couple places downtown that, as we walked by them, we understood the hit or miss Tripadvisor ratings of them. They were clearly nice old town hotels that were the class of the territory in the last century, had fallen on hard times, and have someone now trying to look after them. Would love to stay at such a place, but was concerned after seeing them there are more concerned about their bar business and not making investment to be a boutique hotel. More like a place for drunk revelers to flop at night.

Herein comes the Highland Country Inn. Walkable to downtown, though it might be uncomfortable to some on a cold winter night. Rooms are very clean and quiet given the nearby busy streets and ever present trains in Flagstaff. Must be the way this property sits on the corner offset from the main drag. Clean rooms, older furniture in good condition, and workable newer heat/AC unit. Love the fridge and micro. What I also like is that the owner appeared to be investing significantly in room upgrades with several rooms noticeably out of revenue production being worked on.

Wifi worked great. No breakfast, which might be important to some just passing thru. For those staying multiple days there were several great places for b/l/d within a block or two.

Only one weird thing to mention... When is the last time you stayed somewhere and had no sign for the door to tell maid service the room was occupied? So if you are out and sleeping late, guess what - maid service will wake you up knocking on the door. Either an oversize by the management on a simple low cost hotel/motel standard, or some kind of weird pet peeve of the owner. Simple enough to make your own sign and hang it on the door yourself.

This property was just a reviews said, nothing fancy but very well kept and clean and comfortable. We were on a little getaway and didnt want to spend a lot for a room we would spend little time in. Location was good, bed was comfortable and the staff was excellent. We will stay again if we return to Flagstaff.

Booked this place as it was great value. Was looking forward to a night in Flagstaff but unfortunately we got stuck in a massive traffic jam and got to the hotel after midnight. Cute motel like you see in the films, decent size and clean bathroom. Was only there for a few hours but friendly staff who didn't complain about the late check in

This place is nothing special. But it is a great value. The staff/owners are very accommodating, the room was very quiet, comfortable and clean. The temperature regulation control of the room worked, which seems to be hard to find these days. We arrived very late at night to find out that booking.com, never notified the hotel of our reservations. The staff was very accommodating and had a room for us. The property is less than a mile from downtown and there is a great dinner 1 block away.

We read the other reviews and decided to chance it. They are in the process of completely remodeling the rooms and are about half way there. The paint lines are straight and clean! Important sign of a solid effort to do it right. The motel is older but being done right. Clean and comfy, no frills, but priced right. We will return the next time we are in town.

We hadn't booked anywhere to stay in Flagstaff and wanted somewhere near to the town centre that wasn't too expensive to spend the night before heading up to the Grand Canyon. The Highland Country Inn was more than sufficient. We asked for a room with a view of the mountains and probably got the only one as most seemed to look out over the car park - the view was great to wake up to in the morning though and glad we asked.

The room was fairly basic but massive and importantly for me clean. It had a tiny bathroom which, whilst adequate, seemed a shame as the bathroom could have been double the size and the bedroom would have still been bigger than most! The room didn't have a coffee machine (though there was one in the reception) or an iron / ironing board but it did have a TV, fridge, microwave and a hair dryer.

There was no noize from the road or the railway so we had a decent sleep. Overall I think it was good value for the price we paid (walking in $67 inc tax).

Flagstaff is a great little town and I would recommend people visit if in the area - there are lots of restaurants and bars all within walking distance of the Highland Country Inn or to drive was 2 minutes with lots of parking spaces available in the town. There was no breakfast at the hotel so we had a nice, big and cheap breakfast at the Downtown Diner.
