“Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

My wife and I recently spent 5 days in Flagstaff and unfortunately we only went to this wonderful restaurant 3 times. There were so many more dishes that we hadn't tried yet. The food is wonderful, the prices are good, the staff are friendly and the restaurant is inviting and relaxing. You definitely need to try the stuffed dates wrapped in bacon and the serrano ham croquetas. It's a place where you wish you could just sit there all day and try all the food.

“Poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014

The restaurant is located in a very nice walkable ally with other restaurants. Everyone is very nice if you sit outside. We brought our puppy with us and people would stop and talk to us and pet our dog. Also, other customers approached and talked to us. Very friendly part of town. The menu options looked great and we decided to eat there. The service was very, very slow. The forgot to bring us one of the items we ordered. The burger meat was raw... not rare, not pink... plain raw. The waitress was nice enough not to charge us for the burger. An order of tortilla de patatas (appetizer style), burger and gazpacho took two hours from when we sat down until they brought us the check.

“Memories of Spain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

"Madrid" is a small charming restaurant decorated in the traditional Spanish custom of painted walls, ceramic tiles, intimate tables and the sounds of soft spanish guitar. The varied selections of Tapas, salads and entrees are authentically prepared, the Spanish wine offerings include tasting flights, and the housemade Sangria is refreshing without being overly sweet. Tapas dining is not to be rushed,it is meant to be savored and shared, resulting in an evening of several hours. On our first visit here the staff consisted of three, a server and two chefs, there were eighteen people at five tables and time is also required for the preparation of each dish. Plan on relaxing, and reminiscing, that is if you have visited Espana,if you haven't you may want to. However,if the calender and finances do not allow for such travel, then venture to "Madrid Tapas y Sangria",and you will believe that Spain is closer than you thought..

“Tapas and Wine....life is fine!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

We love this little tapas place! Very authentic tapas served inside a cozy restaurant or outside at charming tables. Wine list is very nice and service is friendly. We dined here for the third time and was not disappointed. A must visit during your time in Flagstaff!

“Poor Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

I'm a big fan of tapas and sangrias and was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant. After looking at it's rating on trip advisor and checking out it's menu, I was curious as to why it only ranks #33 in Flagstaff. Madrid is in a superb location, has an interesting menu and great prices. Why in the world would it not be ranked in at least the top #15?

If the service I received this past weekend is anything close to common, then now I understand the low ranking. My boyfriend and I visited for dinner around 7:15 on a Saturday. Now, we expected the service to be a bit strained because it was pretty busy for gay pride. But in all honesty, it didn't seem to be much busier than a typical Saturday night!

We sat ourselves and waited about 5 minutes for water. Then another 10 minutes for drink requests. 10 more minutes until said drinks arrived. We ordered appetizers and our meals at this point. The waitress told us that our entrees (Paella and Braised Chicken) would take about 30 minutes to prepare. We weren't thrilled because we were very hungry at this point, but we understood that quality dishes like this take time. So we went ahead and confirmed our orders.

The appetizer was delicious...Shrimp al Ajo I believe. At $8, we were expecting more than four shrimp and four tiny little crostini...but oh well. After we got our appetizer, our waitress had pretty much forgotten us. I don't know how, we were at a fairly conspicuous table! Seriously, she had not checked on us again. My boyfriend went to the front to talk to the manager and it turns out she was it, lol. He asked about the lack service and how much longer it would be to get our food. She said ANOTHER TWENTY MINUTES! AT this point it was 8:20PM...we arrived at 7:15. My boyfriend said that is completely unacceptable and we walked out after paying for our appetizer.

I am very, very disappointed at the service of this restaurant and was pretty bummed because the food seemed delicious! However, a restaurant cannot be of quality if the service is not as good as the food. Now I see why it is only ranked #33. Please get it together, Madrid. You have so much potential.
