“Hotel from Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

This is a large motel, including several buildings. We were assigned a room in a building that was being renovated. There was glass and debris all over the parking lot. The room had no running water or electricity. We complained and were assigned another room, which had the same problem. Other guests checking in were complaining of the same problems. The very rude female office manager told everyone they could check out and go elsewhere. The hotel would give no refunds, and those who chose to leave could pursue refunds through whoever booked the room. Did I mention the tiny rooms have no closets. This is a truly awful place.

Room Tip: Avoid this place like the plague. The room was bad enough. The attitude of the office manager is wor...

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times during our time in Arizona. The first couple of times, we stayed in the standard room. It has always been spacious, clean, and the bed was comfortable. The standard room even had a small sitting area. The suite on the other hand, wasn't really worth it. We cooked in the room, and the dishwasher had enough room to stick a wine glass in it, but that was the best thing about the suite. They took away the space from the bathroom, of which it was a good size in the standard room, to make the kitchen, and then it became tiny in the Suite. It was almost not worth the upgrade with the weird space issues that the Suite had. The only caveat about this property is that it is nearly on top of the railroad tracks. If you are a light sleeper, or not used to train noise, you could have an issue. We have lived near trains for a while, so this is not an issue for us.

Room Tip: Just get a standard room. They work very well for what you need. :)

At first, this seemed like a decent affordable lodging. On closer inspection, it could have been better -- a lot better. Like a good many motels, this had sconce-type lamps on either side of the bed. Imagine groping for the switch and finding chewing gum affixed to it. Eww! Being as how it's Flagstaff, nights can be chilly, so the bed had a little fleece coverlet for additional warmth. Imagine pulling it up and finding long blonde hairs all over it. (I have short gray hair) Eww! (Would it really be a chore to at least run these things through the dryer to freshen them and knock off the surplus shedding?) I know it's cowboy country, but both top and bottom sheet had round holes that lined up . Did somebody wear their spurs to bed? The heat did not circulate into the bathroom (Brrr!) The cube refrigerator was unplugged and required moving it as well as some gymnastics to find the outlet. And as a final treat, the bathroom sink was clogged. With the exception of the heating situation, these problems all could have been corrected with a little more diligent housekeeping. I won't be back.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the housekeeping issues that you encountered during your stay in our hotel due to issues such as hairs all over the bed, holes on sheets, broken heater, and clogged bathroom sink. It is disheartening to learn that you did not enjoy your stay and that the room was not properly and thoroughly cleaned and maintained according to the high standards of our housekeeping and maintenance staff. Our housekeeping staff is held to a very high standard and we appreciate that you've informed us of a need to address housekeeping policies and procedures. We thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we want to assure you that the housekeeping issues which you have brought to our attention are being addressed with renewed efforts to improve upon our policies to ensure that each guest has a pleasant and comfortable experience in the future.

Our intro to the Hotel Aspen was a very friendly desk clerk who listened intently to our requirements, and then promptly arranged a upgrade to a suite at no extra cost. Having travelled with a real snorer for a week, the extra room was a great blessing.
The suite was roomy and well equipped, with large comfortable firm beds, refrigerator, and coffee maker. There were sufficient towels and they were nice and fluffy.
There was free drinks at the adjoining diner in the evening and a full breakfast in the morning at the same locale. The chef in the morning was very friendly, made sure we had everything we wanted and needed, and kept the place spotless. Kudos to him.
The only negatives we had were the poor internet service (the whole city was out for awhile but even after the staff informed us that service was back we could not connect past the wifi router), an old TV (not a huge issue), and a heater/AC will did not function other than providing continuous heat or continuous chill. That last one required a number of in-the-night manual changes.
The locale of the hotel is great and we had no noise from the highway or the nearby rail lines.
I would not hesitate to return.I would have rated it Very Good other than the heating and wifi issues.

This have been my preferred hotel in flagstaff for many years, great price, if you don't like the noise of the train, as for the Top section. I just stayed las week and I am happy that the are remodeling the hotel. I recommended for family, have free wifi, happy hour and breakfast.

I booked this hotel thru Priceline. When the time of the booking arrived I called the hotel and told them I had to arrive a day later. Front Desk said no problem we will push it out a day, at no point was I told I was going to be charged extra for this. When I arrived same thing, I was told they needed my credit card ONLY for incidentals. A day after check-out, I get a $200 charge. At no point was I told of this extra charge, that is the problem I have with this particular hotel. Very misleading!!!

The hotel staff was very friendly and attentive. I booked the studio two queen-bed room (2 adults, 1 child). I read some review, so I requested an "upgraded room" that was "away from the street." The staff was nice enough to actually put us in a two room suite up on the hill. The queen bed was extremely soft, while the king bed was pretty hard. I'd suggest requesting a specific type of bed when booking.
The hotel also provided a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker. One review complained that they were all in the same area, but honestly, it didn't make a difference where they were located. It was just nice to see all three were provided! Most hotels don't offer all three, if any at all. (Walking past one of the other rooms, I saw that it did have a full kitchenette, which would be nice when staying for a while).
They also provide free hot breakfast, which tasted great for buffet-style food. They had a two-free-drink social hour, but we were too busy to attend unfortunately.
The room itself was clean and inviting. The sheets, towels, and pillows smelled nice. There was no noise, and the blackout drapes are a great feature. The TV's in the room were older, but provided a great selection of channels and the picture and sound was very clear. The heater worked great, and provided just enough "white noise" to sleep to.

Compared to many of the other hotels in the area, Hotel Aspen is a very nice place to stay for pretty dang cheap. It's pushed back from the major road (the other hotels are directly in the downtown area, right off very busy intersecting streets), but easy to find and in a convenient location (use Google Map "street view" to get a better idea of the hotels' location). If you don't mind being about a mile from the hustle-and-bustle of downtown, I'd highly suggest the hotel.
