we had left new mexico that morning and crossed the northwest part of arizona coming on hiway into flag from the north our biker buddy dennis was waiting out on hiway 89.....so we headed into flag our first... stop a c store for a coke... and directions ... we were sent on south to a bar on silverado road east side of hiway 89... in there a couple cold beers later and directiions were given to downtown and we told to told to visit the monte vista... parking is tough so we parked in their parkiing lot... and headed out on foot .. i went to the check n counter and a lovely and pleasent young girl... told me about the hotel and its rate... i talked to bob and dennis and 2 of us stay here so we wnt for a beer to think it over... and ended up at an irish bar on old route 66.........the pulled pork sandwiches were great...and wow... they had leninkugels summere shandy on tap a great beer.... while the boys stayed there i went and checked into the monte vista..... all the rooms are named i got the alan lad room and the boys got the bobhope suite.. i went back and got them out of the irish bar and we went to check in.. first stop cocktail lounge...ii is great on the lower floor.. a small bar with tables and a great barmaid sally... i had a draft beer and found out they sold monte vista glasses with draft beer... so bob came in and we each bought one... then we looked at the t shirts and she even modeled one for us....and iwas ready to buy but no 2x ...the rooms were done up pretty neat old school ........and the lobby was right out of a movie...with a martina bar right beside.. ....i love the monte vista because we were right downtown on route 66.......if you travell 66 this is the place to go

Room Tip: i love the alan lad room...

Absolutely loved this place. The rooms are not ritzy, but clean and comfortable. The location is excellent, with several great eateries around. The Hotel has a Lounge with pool tables, making having a couple of cocktails and pool games fun, without worrying about getting a DUI. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating. Upon learning that the parking lot was full, the guy behind the counter went out and moved his car to the street, so that we wouldn't have to. The bartenders were fun and friendly, and the Thai food place next door was amazing...we will definately be back...

Just ask to see the room before you pay. They may say: “we don’t give tours.” If they do, just say “I don’t want a tour, I just want to see if my room looks like a “historic” room or whether it looks like a hotel that rents by the hour.” If they still won’t show you, then I would leave.

But don’t fret. You can still get the same experience I had at this historic hotel, even if you don’t stay at the hotel. Just go sit in the hotel bar till 2 in the morning. I wasn’t in the bar, but I might as well have been. It was raging into the night. I shouldn’t complain. I have been meaning to get caught up on all of my heavy metal music, and this hotel allowed me to finally do so.

The bathroom was truly a historic bathroom. Just like in the history books, this bathroom did not have counters, doors that could open without hitting the toilet, or showers that you could bend over in without hitting your head on the shower wall. What a rewarding experience.

Historic smishtoric! This place was scary! First of all,you have to make sure you ask for a bathroom in your room, otherwise your are sharing one in the hallway...dorm style. Secondly, the pictures on their website are apparently only of their upper floors that have recently been remodeled. If you have a pet,you can only stay on the second floor. Those rooms look NOTHING like the rooms on the website. I actually thought The Shining may have been filmed there. I sneezed all night because im allergic to cats and thats what the room smelled like.
As for the location, its in the heart of everything and that was the one plus.

We spend 3 nights here. For me it was well worth every penny just for the location in the middle of downtown Flagstaff. The location is very convenient for walking all around downtown and NAU, and you can go to the many breweries nearby and not have to worry about driving anywhere after.

We stayed in a room with 1 queen bed and a shared bath. Due to the shared bath, the room was a lot less expensive than a room with a bath. I really didn't mind walking down the hall to shower. It was a busy summer weekend and the bathrooms were never occupied. The showers were very small, but it is a very old hotel, so I didn't expect anything larger.

The room was very small, but we didn't spend much time there. The carpet needed to be cleaned, but the bed was clean and comfy and the staff was friendly. If you are a light sleeper, this may not be for you, we could hear people getting out of the bars until after 2 am, but the A/C unit drowned that out pretty well.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a shared bath to save a lot of money. If you choose this route, bring your shower...

We had such a great time the night we spent here on our way to Santa Fe, NM, we stayed here again on our way back to California. Ask for the Jane Russell room if you like RED. The room is supposedly only slightly haunted, and we slept well surrounded by kitschy furnishings. We managed to score a parking spot in their free lot behind the building. The Rendezvous Lounge off the restored lobby is lovely and a popular spot. Great shopping and restaurants are all within a block. The fascinating hotel history which includes movie stars, ghosts, and the hotel’s role as a speakeasy adds to the fun of your visit. Our room was very quiet, but some Thing knocked things off our night stand in the middle of the night, only to find the items right where they should be in the morning. Hmm, and I don’t believe in ghosts…

Room Tip: Third floor rooms named after various movie stars who stayed here. Ask for a room facing north for a...

Quaint but acceptable in a typical "mature" USA town. Great bar downstairs. So so breakfast. Helpful staff. Liked it. Memorable.
