“Was "The Shining" filmed here?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

Historic smishtoric! This place was scary! First of all,you have to make sure you ask for a bathroom in your room, otherwise your are sharing one in the hallway...dorm style. Secondly, the pictures on their website are apparently only of their upper floors that have recently been remodeled. If you have a pet,you can only stay on the second floor. Those rooms look NOTHING like the rooms on the website. I actually thought The Shining may have been filmed there. I sneezed all night because im allergic to cats and thats what the room smelled like.
As for the location, its in the heart of everything and that was the one plus.

We spend 3 nights here. For me it was well worth every penny just for the location in the middle of downtown Flagstaff. The location is very convenient for walking all around downtown and NAU, and you can go to the many breweries nearby and not have to worry about driving anywhere after.

We stayed in a room with 1 queen bed and a shared bath. Due to the shared bath, the room was a lot less expensive than a room with a bath. I really didn't mind walking down the hall to shower. It was a busy summer weekend and the bathrooms were never occupied. The showers were very small, but it is a very old hotel, so I didn't expect anything larger.

The room was very small, but we didn't spend much time there. The carpet needed to be cleaned, but the bed was clean and comfy and the staff was friendly. If you are a light sleeper, this may not be for you, we could hear people getting out of the bars until after 2 am, but the A/C unit drowned that out pretty well.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a shared bath to save a lot of money. If you choose this route, bring your shower...

We had such a great time the night we spent here on our way to Santa Fe, NM, we stayed here again on our way back to California. Ask for the Jane Russell room if you like RED. The room is supposedly only slightly haunted, and we slept well surrounded by kitschy furnishings. We managed to score a parking spot in their free lot behind the building. The Rendezvous Lounge off the restored lobby is lovely and a popular spot. Great shopping and restaurants are all within a block. The fascinating hotel history which includes movie stars, ghosts, and the hotel’s role as a speakeasy adds to the fun of your visit. Our room was very quiet, but some Thing knocked things off our night stand in the middle of the night, only to find the items right where they should be in the morning. Hmm, and I don’t believe in ghosts…

Room Tip: Third floor rooms named after various movie stars who stayed here. Ask for a room facing north for a...

Quaint but acceptable in a typical "mature" USA town. Great bar downstairs. So so breakfast. Helpful staff. Liked it. Memorable.

This is one of only two hotels in the historic downtown area of Flagstaff and we chose it because it was the only one offering twin beds. It is a wonderful location within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and shops.
The hotel is old and very quirky with all the rooms named after different film stars with suitable decoration - we were in the Carole Lombard room which was painted entirely in gold! Some of the rooms are supposed to be haunted so you could check in advance if you do or don't want one of those.
One drawback was that the rooms do not have coffee making facilities, nor is there free coffee in the hotel. There is a cafe/ bar downstairs however and they will give you free ice. The bars ( there is also another bar) are very lively in the evening, filled with noisy young people which we found quite offputting, but we couldn't hear any noise in our room.
The room was clean when we arrived but not cleaned after that ( we stayed for 5 days) and the beds were not made on one of the days, so we weren't very impressed with that. The man on reception when we arrived also failed to impress as he did not look up from his phone call while we were waiting to check in, nor did he seem to know much about the hotel services. We never saw him again though and the other receptionists were very good.

Lobby & room very quaint. No coffee pot in room or in lobby. Must purchase coffee from bar. Parking difficult. Very few spaces available next to hotel. $10. Parking available in lot across the street.
Room quiet. Train noise not an issue as trains do not blare their horns when going through town. Bed comfortable. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Lovely old fashioned hotel. Very good value, though they don't offer breakfast and the bathroom was tiny. Good restaurants all around within walking distance. We would stay again.
