Put on your walking shoes. A lot of equipment on display to read about, hands on, and actual rolling stock. Train rides available during summer months. The engine repair house is a must see. Walk through sleeper cars, dining cars and Engines also a Must see.

“great for pictures”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

I live in Scranton and love going to Steamtown to take pictures. You can wander around most trains without paying to entering the park. Park admission gets you into the roundhouse and museum areas(which I haven't actually done yet). Definitely check their website and try to visit when they are running the steam engines!

The Steamtown National Historic Site is a must see if you are a railroad enthusiasts. The Guides are extremely knowledgeable about the history of railroads. Several trains are on-site for you to see. An old fashion steam driven train takes visitors on a ride out of town and back. For those that know railroading you need to see Steamtown National Historical Site in Scranton, PA.

“Good place to take the kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Very interesting place to visit, especially if you have children. Definitely take a train ride if they are running. The trains bring you back to how things were 100 years ago. Very educational and a fun family activity to do on a weekday in the summer or any weekend of the year.
