“Nice place to stop with the family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

We were on our way to visiting day at camp in the Poconos to see our son, and stopped here. It seems that all the camps in the Poconos have visiting day on the same day. We met families from our area at the pool. The hotel was clean and nicely decorated. The indoor pool was quite large and well-maintained, and the shopping center nearby was great. Breakfast was more than adequate. Beds - not the most comfortable, but not the worst either.

My wife and I stayed at the Hampton Inn on the way to visit our kids at camp in the Poconos. Most of the other guests seemed to be doing the same thing--in fact, we ran into an ex-neighbor in the lobby, who was on his way to visit his son.

The big news in town that night was the decision by Scranton's mayor to reduce the salary of all public workers--including police, fire fighters, and teachers--to the minimum wage of $7.50/hour, or so. At that rate, they would have to work 20 hours, half a workweek, to muster up what we paid for one night here. And that points up the only negative of this hotel--it was a bit pricy for what it is.

Otherwise, I only have good things to say. The young lady who checked us in spoke at about 100 MPH, but another employee, Jack (the manager?), reiterated what she had said at an understandable rate of speed. He is a friendly guy and was helpful during our stay, such as telling us where a local CVS could be found.

Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the flat-screen TV worked fine, and there were electrical outlets in the bedside lamps so I could plug in my CPAP device. The bathroom was completely clean, water pressure was fine, towels were fluffy, etc

The buffet breakfast was pretty good, though a bit crowded with families heading out to camp visiting days across the Poconos. There was a nice combo of eggs, meats, waffles, fruit, cereal, etc.

There is one little issue to look out for, and that involves getting to the hotel from the highway. If you're heading north on I-81 and get off at Montage Mountain Road, make sure to make a right turn onto the street that leads to the parking lot. The street has a sign at the end of the parking light driveway that says "16" on it, because TV station 16 is in the same complex. If you miss that turn, as we did, you get right back onto I-81, and you can't turn around for 2 or 3 miles.

All in all, however, a pleasant experience.

I have stayed at this Hampton Inn before. It was an especially good value this time because I was able to use a roomsaver coupon I picked up along the road. The front desk staff was friendly, the room was very clean and the breakfast, with the make your own waffles, was amazing. I tend to search out Hampton Inns on my travels because the bedding package is incredibly comfortable.
The whirlpool rooms are especially nice and have microwaves, fridges and gas fireplaces.
It is a long drive from Toronto and this motel was a great place to break up the trip.

Room Tip: If you are a HiltonHonors Gold or Platinum member, you can ask to be upgraded to a whirlpool room (o...

We had a late check in (10pm) and arrived to a dirty room. Very disappointing. Bed was made and towels were there but there was a dirty cup in the room and the TV screen was so smeared you couldnt even see through the dirt. Upon notifying the front desk they quickly changed our room but we weren't happy with the inconvenience so late at night. I also had other family members staying at the Inn who were disappointed in not being able to use the pool due to overcrowding from a private pool party. Best thing I have to say is that the front desk personnel were all very friendly.

Hello Donna D,

We are so sorry to hear about the inconvenience you experienced during your stay with us, we are glad to hear that the front desk agent was able to quickly correct the concern and move you to a clean room. We pride ourselves on cleanliness here at the Hampton Inn Scranton so I assure you this experience is not normal to have at our property. During the summer months we do have a higher volume of families staying with us and utilizing our pool so that may have been what caused the higher volume of swimmers during your stay.We look forward to having you as our guest again in the future and are confident that your next stay will be positive.

Thank you,

We've stayed at this Hampton in three times, so it's about time for me to tell your readers why! This is a nice Hampton Inn, perfectly situated about an hour or so away from a lot of summer camps in the Poconos. It is very clean, and the staff was friendly. We stayed here on the way to dropping off our kids at two different overnight camps and on the way to visit for parents' visiting day. If you're a long drive away from the Poconos and either need to get there early or want to break up a long trip, this is a nice place to stop overnight. The front desk folks recommended a wonderful Italian Restaurant, Amadeo's, in Moosic, PA, just ten minutes away. (See my separate review.) We'll definitely be back.

I crashed here on my way to upstate New York for the weekend. A typical Hampton Inn with all the amenities and the cleanliness you would expect from a Hampton brand. Would stay here again. Be careful to not mix up the ketchup and the hot sauce at breakfast. Both are in packets that look alike and are not separated into different trays. I am not sure why anyone would do this, however. That was the only part that puzzled me about this place.

This is a plain hotel, but it actually was better than expected. Beside the fact that this is a pretty inexpensive hotel, they at least made an effort to try not to show it; effort well done! Everything was updated, which gave it a good feeling overall. The staff was tolerant, too. I was with a large group; about 110 people, where 9/10 of the total were middle school kids. But no nasty remarks were made from the staff, (we expected some kind of nastiness, but got none. Really surprised!) and they accomidated us to the best of their ability. Overall, no complaints, and for the price, it really was not bad at all.
