“Gorgeous Park in beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Indoor and outdoor park with special emphasis on Alaskan Native handicrafts and art. Exhibits are well done and self-explanatory. Also caters to cruise passengers so if you are solo, plan to go on a day the ships are not in port for a more intimate experience.

“Enjoyable visit by foot from cruise ship”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

A very peaceful and worthwhile visit from the cruise port. It is close enough for a nice, long walk. You also likely see a few eagles. Nothing says ‘Alaska’ like totem poles and eagles!

You can easily see a few sites on your own without booking through the expensive cruise excursions. For instance, we did the Russian Bishop’s House, Totem Park, and the Raptor Center – all on foot and on our own. Afterwards, we even had time to explore the town as well.

Lots of photo opportunities at the Totem Park.

“Good walk, good totems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Good choice for a flat forest walk, water views and culture all together. No complaints. But felt average for SE Alaska totem collections outdoors, perhaps with a better spread for longer strolling. We were there during the pink salmon run and the view of salmon from the trail bridge over Indian River was outstanding. (third week of Aug.)

“Little Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

This is just a 15 minute pleasant walk along the harbor from the center of town. It's a little gem...a historic site with lovely walks and a salmon stream. The totems are fascinating. Try to join a Ranger walk, to understand the symbolism, skill and conservation issues asssociated with these works of art.

“Totems on the trail”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

There are a number of totems on the site. Unfortunately our time was constrained so we could not spend as much time as we might have liked. The park rangers do a number of interpretative tours during any given day. I think you would gain much from from taking one of the tours and learning about the totems and their meaning.
