“Excellence!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

Just returned from a three day trip to Dove Island Lodge, and I want to give a very positive review. If you are looking for a best of everyting, this is where to plan your trip. If you want top notch guides, equipment, and facilities, this is the place for you. It is by no means cheap, but I felt it was very much worth the price. This is a luxury trip. It was my first trip to Alaska, and a gift to my son for his high school graduation. I did not want to take the risk of flying that far and facing any inkling of disppointment. No problem. Dove Island only takes about 12 to 14 guests at any time. The guests are divided among three guided venues each day, so personal attention is extremely high and of extremely high quality. Top quality gear is provided right down to waders and rain gear, so all you need is some warm clothing. The owners of this facilty have made a very serious commitment to provide the very best. Gourmet evening meals are phenomenal, and the personal attention is awesome. I plan to go again.

Room Tip: All of them are excellent.

This is our second stay at Dove Island Lodge. It is a first class fishing "lodge" that offers the best of salt water and fresh water fishing. The five course dinners are a feast for the eyes and the stomach. Truly a memorable vacation that is unmatched by others. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: The main lodge has around 7 rooms and there are also two separate (but very close) individual first...

This was our second time to Dove Island Lodge and it was just as good the second time around. This is a fishing resort by which all others should be judged by. Meals were all five-star! The owners of the lodge, Duane and his lovely wife Tracy joined us every evening for the delightful meals and to find out how everyone's day went. At the end of the evening, they provide a slideshow of pictures people took during their adventures fishing. Talk about fish tales!

Fishing was outstanding. Captains Eric and Dale always seemed to find the spots where the fish were abundant. At the end of the day, the fish were processed into fillets or any way you wanted it. The fish were then vacuum packed and flash frozen.

If fishing is not your thing, there are many side trips; whale watching, shopping, eco tours, bear fortress, etc. The staff at the lodge bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy your stay. Your wish is their command! Trevor was always there asking us if there was anything we needed or wanted. The quiet, pristine beauty that surrounds the lodge is incredible and sometimes it was nice just to sit and soak it all in, whether that be in your own private hot tub on the balcony of your room or sitting on the deck outside the lodge.

This is definitely a place to visit, once, twice and most likely in our case three or more!!!!

Can't wait to go back

You won't find a better spot in Southeast Alaska than this beautiful little lodge on a tiny island offshore from the wonderful Russian heritage village of Sitka, Alaska.

The lodge has beautiful accommodations with your own private hot tub on your own private balcony. Your suite has a large screen TV in the bedroom, a giant screen TV in the living area, a refrigerator beside your bed for cool beverages and beautiful furnishings throughout.

You'll discover a terrific wood-fired sauna next to the yellow cedar walkway that leads to the boats and the float plane that can take you on a fantastic fly-in fishing excursion in the Sitka wilderness. I spotted bears and eagles on my way to cacthing 4 nice sized salmon on my fly rod accompanied by a guide who knew just where to cast the bait!

And, you'll end your day with the traditional 5 course gourmet dinner each evening and then gather round the large stone fireplace to talk about the day and the one that didn't get away!

Room Tip: Any room will do in this beautiful lodge.

Husband just got back from five days, four nights at Dove Island Lodge. Has been iin the fishing industry for 40 years, working for top tackle manufacturers. He knows fishing and luxury. This trip topped them all! The fishing was the best. The meals were elegant, well-planned and of a five-star restaurant level. The lodging was comfortable, clean and well-appointed. The float plane was an added bonus. And, best of all, the fish were cleaned, packed and ready to check as baggage with Alaska Airlines when he departed. The Lambeth family truly run a first class operation.

Next year, we both plan on going. It was that good! Yes, it seems a little expensive, but when you factor everything in, it is an excellent value for the experience.

Room Tip: Book early. Tell the Lambeths if you have any special needs.

I recenty returned from a three day fishing trip in Sitka,AK at the Dove Island Lodge which was one of the biggest dissappointments of my life! The accommidatioins were marginal at best with one of our two bedroom suite having a blow up air matress and the other had no storage as the only chest of drawers was in the first room. The bathroom was tiny and there wasn't any room for toiletries etc.

When we arrived we weren't introduced to any of the other guests and the owners never even came over to greet us or make us feel welcome. The food at dinners was fine but there weren't any choices and a bit over the top for fishing lodge fare. The breakfasts were very disorganized and we had to ask for several items every day. Lunches were sandwitches which we had to assemble ourselves without any serving fork! (hands only)

Aside from the food, we were treated as if were relatives that had over stayed our welcome and didn't feel comfortable in the lodge. The other guests all had the same opinion and we never met anyone who had stayed there before nor would return . The fishing was good but we had a limit of one king salmon and one halibut (not larger than 37") so for nearly four thousand dollars we cought six fish and a bunch of rockfish and silver salmon. All in all I wouldn't recommend staying at the Dive Island Lodge
