We usually just transit through Sitka but finally had an overnight so got to try the Fly-In Fish Inn. Saw it years ago after flying with Ken Bellows and his wonderful Sitka Air float plane service. It's the shore structure anchoring his 'airport' dock tot he beach. Ken's sister Dee runs the place and she's as wonderful as the Inn.
The Fly-In Fish Inn has 3 floors with an elevator. Rooms are truly huge, newly appointed, and extremely clean. All 3 of our rooms had 2 large comfortable beds, microwave 'kitchen', internet, view of the water 40' away. Be prepared for Alaskan decor, we had serious moose and bear inour room. Dee also runs an attached cafe/bar that I didn't recall on her website. We had other dinner plans but our party of 7 enjoyed her wonderful made-to-order breakfast. Important note - Dee's blueberry scones are truly killer good and worth the visit all on their own!
Other than the short walk south to town (the Fly-in Fish Inn is on the water in the industrial working shoreline area just north of town about halfway to the marinas) there's nothing to complain about.
We made our plans 4 months ago, emailed our reservation request and didn't even need to provide a credit card to hold our 3 rooms. Unless you have a compelling reason to stay at one of the 'downtown' hotels a few hundred yards away, I would highly recommend Dee's place when staying in Sitka.
