“Epic, Couldn't have asked for more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We needed a getaway, and that is exactly what we got! But we never imagined just how awesome this getaway was until we arrived. The views of the mountains, the cleanliness, the huge rooms, extra large bathrooms, the master bath had a double headed shower so there was no fighting over the water :) not to mention the huge bathtub too. The kitchen had everything we needed, new appliances, we cooked steaks out on the grill, and cuddled on one of the couches and watched TV. The fireplace crackled in the master as it snowed out side, and not to mention the awesome hot tub.
I already recommended this place to a friend, My only hold back is that if everyone finds out about this place, it will be booked up and I won't have a get away :) The owner was so nice too, we are already booking our next trip in May. and that's saying a lot cause we travel all over the world and rarely stay in the same place twice!

“Always a guaranteed good time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

This cabin is perfect for a group getaway from DC. We've been there two years in a row and will make this an annual thing. Annette is very easy to work with, very responsive. The cabin lay-out is nice and open, great open kitchen. Fire pit outside and hot tub are also big pluses. Reasonably priced.

“DC seems a million miles away!!”

We traveled to this cabin on a couples weekend. Coming in from the DC metro area, we were looking for a place to unwind for a quick getaway. This cabin is the perfect place to do just that! The first thing that we noticed was the privacy and how quiet the area was. There was more than enough parking available (we had 3 cars). As soon as we stepped out of the car, we were greeted by a gorgeous patio complete with picnic tables, fire pit, and a hot tub. The landscaping and attention to detail was beautiful. Once inside the cabin, the first thing that jumped out to us was just how immaculate it was. The great room/kitchen area is very spacious and decorated with a very comforting, country feel to it. In the kitchen, we were surprised at just how well stocked it was. Anything you could possibly need from flatware to a crockpot to even stemware was available! The two bedrooms are just as well kept as the great room. Having linens provided was an added bonus. The bathroom in the master suite includes a huge garden tub and a dual headed shower with a built in bench. There is DirecTV in both bedrooms and in the living room. Outside, we enjoyed the two walking trails through the field on the property. The neighbors are incredibly friendly. We had such a wonderful experience that we booked another weekend immediately upon our return home. This is a beautiful property. You can really tell how much attention and love the owners give it.

“Cozy for a romantic getaway weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013 for a stay in January 2013

This cabin was charming, comfortable, contemporary and CLEAN. We stocked up on food and wine before arriving so we never had to leave, except to go hiking.

We loved that it was dog-friendly, and thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, fireplace and grill. We also had fun playing the provided board games.

The only things we would recommend are the following:

* Basket or something to haul wood
* WI-FI would be a nice touch
* There was no bath soap provided. If that is the policy it should be mentioned before arrival so guests know to bring their own.
* An extra propane tank, so when it runs out the owner doesn't need to be bothered!
* A barrier to keep oblivious guests from parking on the patio, as we did (Sorry!)

Overall, it was a wonderful weekend and we look forward to returning.

I am glad you enjoyed yourselves...
You will be happy to know - 2nd propane tank already set - and stone wall expanded to act as barrier on patio....and all is good...you are suppose to have a good time when you are on vacation...I will also add to my confirmation list to bring soaps for bath, as only hand soaps are provided. Wifi might be awhile due to in the country...Gathering Grounds in town welcomes laptops they offer free WIFI and they have great coffee--I mention this in info sent with code to key box. What a good idea for some sort of wood carrier- I will look for something user friendly- i guess I am so used to carrying wood in by hand I never even thought of this. Thank you for the recommendations...come again!

“Wonderful Get Away Cabin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013 for a stay in February 2013

people found this review helpful

Just spent a lovely Winter long weekend at Massanutten Springs Cabin – a wonderful escape from city living. The cabin is lovely – the historic 1850’s part is the bedrooms and a very well designed addition off the back and side include the great room (kitchen and living area) and bathrooms and utility room. They did a wonderful job combining the old and new so you can appreciate the historic part but enjoy the modern comforts of the addition.

Large modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances and lots of counter space for prep. Big living area with 3 sofas/futons to laze around on. We were just 2 people and a dog, so not sure how the space would work with a big group but it looks like it’s well designed for a bunch of people. Was luxurious for 2 – the huge 4 person sofa is perfect for two people taking an afternoon nap after a nice hike! The stars at night from the hot tub on the back patio are glorious.

Easy access to hiking trails in George Washington forest and Shenandoah Valley – the owner recommended Kennedy Peak trail was great 4 mile round trip with amazing views from the peak and only about 15 min drive from cabin.

Some hopefully useful things to know if you’re considering renting:
- Bed set up: Master bedroom on ground floor has a double bed. Upstairs bedroom has a double bed and futon (note this bedroom is accessed by a spiral staircase and there’s no door on this bedroom; there’s also no bathroom on the upper level – which might be an issue for some people) Additional futon and pull out sofa in the living area on ground floor. If you had 10 people it would be cozy, but it’s set up so you could sleep this many.
- Bathrooms: Large master bath with large double shower and separate soaking tub is off the master bedroom. Another full bath with shower stall is off the living area. Again with 10 people, you’d need to be friendly.
- There’s no kitchen table or dining room table. There’s a L-shaped nice bar set up around the open kitchen with a whole bunch of bar stools for eating at the counter. There are also 2 outside picnic tables for warmer months. Again, worked fine for 2 of us, but if you were trying to feed a large group just know what to expect.
- Fireplace is in the master bedroom. There’s also an outside fire pit. But no fireplace in the main living area.
- Accessibility – Surprised to see the cabin was designed to be accessible – there is a ramp to the main door from the drive way. Grab bars in both the bathrooms. Master bedroom is on ground floor so only the upstairs bedroom requires stairs to access.
- Main room has a stone or slate hard floor. Very practical for country living and the mud and stuff that get tracked in. Worth listening to owner’s suggestion and packing slippers in cold months.
- Pets: Our dog was in heaven at the cabin. There’s nice trails right out back that go up by a small fishing pond and then further up the hill. There are 2 beautiful St Bernard’s in the house part way to the pond that bark a lot when you pass with a dog (bring a leash on walks for this short section – the St Bernard’s are in an electric fenced area.) In mid winter, the trails were muddy so boots are suggested. Also bring a dog bed or something warm for your four legged friends – as noted above floors of the cabin can be cold.
- The cabin is right on a road and cars can come through pretty fast – though not a highly traveled road. But beware with dogs or kids outside. Also if you’re expecting to be in the middle of the woods and see and hear nothing, that’s not the case.
- There is a public boat ramp to the Shenandoah River a short walk up the road. Not very interesting in February, but looks like it would be great river access in warmer months.
- There’s a Food Lion on Rt 211 on way into Luray from cabin (and conveniently a loyalty card left in the basket at the cabin – a nice touch). All the basics for a grocery store, but don’t expect a huge selection. Beer and wine sold at the grocery store or an ABC store in the same plaza. We stumbled on a local produce stand and had fresh spinach in February and locally made pasta– yum.
- Ordered from a local pizza and pasta place first night recommended by the owner and they delivered to the cabin (country living, with city convenience!)
- Got decent (1-2 bars) coverage on Verizon i-phones and ATT i-pad at the cabin (and amazing Verizion coverage at top of Kenney Peak!) Got no coverage at all at cabin or in downtown Luray on T-Mobile blackberry. Owners’ check-in notes include some local wife spots.

Thank you Annette!

So happy you had a good stay...I got tickled you must have a King Bed at home that makes our Queen beds look small...LOL
Also I will take this time to enlighten future guests as to sleep up to 10 is perfect for 4 to 6 adults and 4 children, or Grandma/Grandpa, Mom and Dad / children. Although I have had 10 individuals come and be very comfy as well using sleeping bags and blow up mattresses...so it is all in preference. When you visit again- check out Rainbow Hill for a huge selection of beer and wines, along with all sorts of shops within a shop! This local business is also listed on my website along with on the magnet on the fridge. We hope to get WIFI in the future at our cabin - although in the country - plus Gathering Grounds is the perfect place to take your laptop and enjoy a cup of coffee as well. So glad you enjoyed the Kennedy's Peak Trail - awesome views!

“New Year's Eve at the cabin was awesome.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013 for a stay in December 2012

I just wanted to send you a quick message on our mini vacation.

As soon as we walked into your place, we immediately felt right at home. It was so warm and comfortable and smelled really good too. It was a nice touch with the Christmas tree and the champagne left for us. We already talked about returning in warmer weather to partake in the canoeing and riverboat cruise. We can't wait to come back.
