“Good food...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

I was passing over the mountain and decided to stop in and give it a shot and I enjoyed the food and was overly surprised. The prices are comparable to any other steak house but at least I wasn't satisfied with the food and service.

“Just an average steakhouse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2012

Nothing to rave about as far as food is concerned. But does have a friendly staff and scenic location.

“Cozy joint, great steak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2011

Our group of eleven golfers dined here on Thursday Sept. 29th. I had the New York strip, salad and mashed potatoes. For an out of the way place, they sure did it right again this year. This was my second annual golf getaway to Luray and the second time to Dan's.
I have paid ALOT more for steaks at hi-end steakhouses and Dan's gets pretty close to those experiences at less than half the cost. Steak was tender and had great flavor and was done to perfection. I can't wait for next years trip to dine at Dan's again.

“NEVER AGAIN !!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

Waitress was great. We went to get a good steak well done but according to the menu well done is not recommended or edible. We ordered a burger and cajun catfish, the burger came as a knife and fork slab of gristle meat, the fish in a puddle of water with a texture of pudding and a flavor no cajun would claim. $40 are you kidding. There is no way Dan survives on repeat business. This is a tourist trap with a days gone by reputation. The sweet tea was great. Do not use the restrooms.

“Good but Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2011

We're in the area frequently and have eaten at Dan's several times. It's a very casual mom and pop place and certainly not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. It's very popular with locals, and on weekend evenings, it can get pretty crowded. It seems like every table with locals has ordered the sirloin-for-two special. We've never tried it, but from overheard conversations, these folks come back for it time and again, so I suspect it's a pretty good deal. We've usually ordered rib-eyes and they have always been very good and done exactly like we ordered. The salads and sides are rather unremarkable and bland. Avoid the french fries and mashed potatoes, get a baked potato or baked sweet potato instead. I wouldn't expect too much from the non-steak entrees; we've never ordered any but we've had other diners tell us the shrimp, fish, and chicken fingers are standard frozen fare. Overall, it's a good place to get a steak if you're in the area.
