“Wonderful breakfast, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

My husband and I visited Luray for a night and had a nice stay in the Mountainview Cottage with its own porch. Yes, it is part of a duplex -- a completely separate building from the main inn, but it was comfortable and worked just fine for us. Loved the location of the inn -- within walking distance of many restaurants and a movie theater (which is a MUST visit -- one of the coolest theaters we've ever seen). Our breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious, and the innkeeper, Ann, was very friendly and accommodating. Though the nearby trains did wake my husband up, I must confess that I slept through the whole thing. Overall, a nice stay! Would return, probably ask to stay in the main house next time.

Fortunately my husband and I have a great sense of humor, we are still laughing over this one. The "French Cottage" in the back of the cute Victorian is were we stayed, not a French Cottage, just a duplex. It did have a porch but the views are not what they say they are. You can make out the mountain between the buildings and the power lines. The TV has a dish network with only a few channels but who goes to a B&B to watch TV?!? The Fireplace, is a portable heater placed into a fireplace like decorative spot in the corner. It does have a flame like picture to it, true ambiance.

The part that makes us laugh the most remembering this stay was not at the fault of the B&B. It is the trains that came through late at night and early in the am, horns blaring because they have to cross the streets. Then there was the Volunteer Fire Department siren (2 blocks away) that went off at 4 in the morning, right between the trains. If you have ever heard this type of siren go off then you know what I am talking about when I say we woke up thinking our lives were over. The end of the world. There is no sleeping through that, no matter how much complimentary wine you get. You may be saying we just got unlucky, true but upon further research we found out that the town refuses to use the new modern CB radio/land line/cellular phone calling tree to alert the Volunteers when they are needed. The residents of Luray seem to like the tradition of the siren that goes off on average once a day.

With all that said, we still had a great time together, we always do. It did have some redeeming qualities;
The main house is charming.
It does have a Jacuzzi tub which was nice to relax in.
The Inn Manager, Ann and assistant were both very pleasant and enjoyable to talk with and knew a good deal about the area. Plus we got a complimentary bottle of wine.

Everything about this place is perfect. From the cozy room to the best waffles We've ever tasted. The owner miss Annie and Gloria are very warm and friendly. We highly recommend the Inn of the Shenandoah.

My wife and I stayed at the Inn during for a couple of days last week. We were booked into the cottage behind the main house. Everything about our stay was exceptional. The main house is charming, with common areas on the first floor and three bedrooms on the second floor. Although the cottage we stayed at behind the main house didn't have the character of the main house, it afforded us more room and privacy, with a separate living area.

All of the staff, and especially Ann, the Inn manager, were most hospitable. The breakfasts were first rate. In sum, you will not be disappointed with this B & B.

Room Tip: I recommend the cottage out back. This option provides access to the main house, in addition to priv...

My wife and I had never visited the Luray Caverns, so we decided to spend my wife's birthday over a 2 day stay at the Inn. It was so delightful and it was due to our wonderful host, Ann. From the time we arrived, we were treated with such hospitality and care, that we knew this was going to be a memorable stay. The room was quite comfortable to include your own fireplace.
Breakfast was nothing short of excellent to include one morning with waffles and peaches.
Lodging at the Inn of the Shenandoah is a must if you are visiting Luray.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great which can be viewed on the website.

We wish we had had more time to spend at this b&b. Miss Ann is one of the most delightful persons I have met in the B&B industry. We had a wonderfully comfortable cozy room. I had left a bag behind at a previous location, making it necessary to get up quite early the next morning to backtrack. Ann was gracious enough to prepare and marvelous early breakfast, which I needed for a long rain-filled trek. I hope to return for a longer stay. Any traveler to the Luray area who fails to stay here is making a mistake.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Inn and I have to say we have a very comfortable and pleasant stay. Anne is a very charming and friendly Inn Keeper and is always ready to accommodate requests and so is her wonderful helper Gloria. Our suite was cleaned daily and I like the fact that we had fresh towels daily that the room smelt lovely as we walked in. We also had a complimentary bottle of wine which was a nice touch. The Breakfasts were delicious. The Artisanal grill down the street is a pretty good restaurant and we dined there twice, also at Rancho if you like Mexican food. The Shenandoah valley park is just breathtakingly beautiful especially during this time of the year and we had a picturesque hike up the Stony man trail. The Luray caverns are also a must see.
