“Mixed experience !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2011

We stayed in the Comfort Inn in Three Rivers in July 2011 for 2 nights. Like most guests we stayed there to visit the beautiful Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Overall I would have given this hotel a "very good" rating, however it failed on two (at least for me) important counts.

But let me first hightlight the positives:

1) Location, Location, Location: This hotels is located about 15 to 20 minutes by car from one of the entrances to the Sequoia National Park.

2) It is nice and quiet during the night, expect of course the humming of the A/C during the summer.

3) Our room (a King Bed Suite with a Sofa Bed) was spacious for two adults and one child (a second child or a third adult could have easily fit into the room)

4) The condition of the room was very good, well maintained and clean

5) The parking is convenient right in front of the hotel.

Now the two negatives which lead me to rate this property "average" only:

A) I don't understand how the State of California can allow a property with this kind of room capacity to operate a hotel with such a small breakfast area. July is obviously high season and the hotel must have been completely full. The breakfast room in the morning was a complete chaos with people virtually trampling over each others feet or not finding a space to sit at all. The hotel even opened up an extra room, but it didn't really help much.
The lesson here is that either you accept it as is and consider it as a compromise for the excellent location and good value, or you don't have breakfast there or stay someplace else.

B) I hope that the WiFi system has been replaced by now. Being that Three Rivers is quite remote and the Mobile phone reception is spotty at best, to have a reliable WiFi would be a valuable feature and surely appreciated by many guests planning their excursions etc.

Room Tip: I would recommend that you ask for a room upstairs if you don't want the head-lights from some p...

Very nice hotel. The room was very clean and it was spacious with all the amenities - microwave, fridge, internet etc. Only 15 minutes from the south entrance to Sequoia and Generals Highway. Great breakfast spread.

I had to come to Three Rivers for work. There aren't many places to stay or eat here. The credit union I'm working for recommended this motel. It's adequate for the area. It's also clean. The staff, however, is incredible! I didn't get cell phone service so the manager, Katie let me use her cell phone. Would that happen at a big hotel in a big city? No way!!! So that, in itself, has made this a great place to stay!

The Comfort Inn is practically the first building that you see as you arrive in Three Rivers from the west. This is a really comfortable hotel. I think that it may have formerly been a Holiday Inn Express, as the sign is out back behind the parking lot.

Our room was very comfortable and clean, and the rate was extremely reasonable for the location. There are at least two laundry rooms, and both the washer and dryer are $1.25 each. If you forgot laundry soap, they have it at reception.

The breakfast room was bright and cheerful. We even saw a hummingbird right outside the window. Receptionists were very helpful.

This is an excellent location for exploring Sequoia National Park. The south entrance is about 15 minutes away. Don't be put off by reports of construction holdups on Generals Highway. Even if you do get held up for a few minutes, it's worth the time to get out of the car and enjoy the spectacular scenery.

The Comfort Innis also only a five minute drive from Kaweah, which features one of the smallest post offices in the U.S.

One tip - if you fancy a quiet night, stay in the hotel section (western end), and not the motel section. On our visit, it appeared that the hotel was putting all of the families with small children in the motel section.

Had a great meal at the River View Restaurant, which is right on the banks of the Kaweah River.

Many thanks, Comfort Inn!

Room Tip: Stay in the hotel part, on the western end of the complex. Much quieter.

At $143, this was one of the most expensive places we stayed on our journey cross-country. And it was OK - we had a "suite" with a sofabed which was helpful for our family of five. Breakfast was amazingly crowded on a Sunday morning in October. Overall, unremarkable but perfectly decent.

The Comfort Inn has 2 blocks, the one attached to reception, and one standalone taller block. My room was in the 2nd of these blocks, we had king room, which was clean and comfortable. It had a small fridge and microwave in the room, plus the usual coffee maker. The wifi was quick and reliable, the television, while CRT had a reasonable selection of channels available.

The breakfast buffet consisted of cereal, toastable items, muffins, a limited selection of hot items such as scrambled egg and sausage, waffle machines and tea/coffee/juice. While it wasn't super swanky eating from disposable plates, the breakfast tasted good and set us up for the day.

This isn't a place you rave about, but for the money (out of season rates) it was a pleasant place to stay. It isn't long to drive to the park gates from here, though be aware, once inside park it could be a long drive to get to where you needed to be, as the roads are narrow, twisting and also have a large section with traffic lights to manage to one way traffic.

We decided to stay somewhere in Three Rivers to get a head start on a visit to Sequoia and after checking reviews and rates decided to go up there and make the decision on arrival.

After driving around the Comfort Inn stands out as a very clean building with no loose ends, that can't be said for some (most) of the other places. So rather than taking a chance on ending up in a quirky place, we decided to go for the formula solution at Comfort Inn.

The rooms were all clean and very well organized for function. Service was good, inclusive of Breakfast and Wifi. And the rate was good.

So I'd recommend the Comfort Inn. Only one thing, there's not much view from the rooms and that might be a plus for some of the other places located on the river.

Happy Travelling
