“Wonderful Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

This is the second time staying at the Buckeye Tree Lodge, and I again really enjoyed it. I think the location alone makes this my favorite place to stay, being right next to the river, but it is also pet friendly and comfortable. It isn't a big fancy hotel but I think I like that about it as well. The sound of the river constantly rolling over boulders is very relaxing and probably because of that I never heard any of the neighbors even though the place was full. They also have a nice outdoor pool. We didn't get in, but it looked fantastic. We also got a little fruit basket with juice for breakfast, and the wifi worked with no problems.

Room Tip: I enjoyed the room on the lower level better than the upper level because there is more outdoor pati...

Thank you for your wonderful comments and your continued patronage. We have many guests like you that come and stay with us again and again and that is the best compliment we can have. We are not a big fancy chain hotel but a small family run hotel that really cares about its guests. We look forward to your next visit and will continue to try to make the Buckeye Tree Lodge a special experience for you.

Sincerely,

Four of us stayed here for a "girls trip" July 2-5. We were very pleased with the location (just outside the Park's entrance, though you have to drive 60-90 minutes to get to the trails inside the park). Proximity to the park is one great feature, but it was the beautiful, rushing Kaweah River right off our back porch that made this place feel really serene and special. We loved unwinding on the porch or at the picnic tables after a day of hiking, listening to the river. We barbecued one night on the charcoal grill (be sure to bring charcoal). We also loved the homemade muffins offered in the breakfast basket. The coffee was GOOD, too! The room was really small for 4 people - we almost had nowhere to put all of our luggage. That is really the only negative to speak of. Other perks that reviewers before me have mentioned include free wi-fi (it was slow but met our needs), free long-distance calls, Dish Network TV, a well-equipped kitchenette with stove, microwave, decent sized fridge, and all the cookware you need, air conditioning, and a nice heated pool. You really can't go wrong with this place if you are looking for close proximity to SNP without being IN the park. The owner and his staff do a superb job.

Room Tip: Do NOT bother eating at the Gateway Restaurant next door. Way over-priced and poor customer service...

Thanks for the great comments and glad to hear that the four of you had a great time and enjoyed your stay with us. We do try to add our own personal touches such as homebaked muffins and really fresh coffee (we provide French Roast beans and an electric coffee bean grinder in every room) and it makes my day when I read that you appreciate the little niceties!

Sincerely,

We stayed here two nights in late June. It is an older property, but seems well maintained and everything was clean. If you can survive with no phone or wi fi service, this is a great spot. The office staff were friendly and eager to help. Although there is no cell phone service, free nationwide calling is available on the room phone. The river at the back of the property was barely more than a creek due to the dry weather, but it was still lovely. But as far as attractions, we found nothing to do except for the parks. But I was ready for a little rest, so I didn't mind just sitting and listening to the water going over the rocks. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again if we return to the area. The food at the restaurant next door was good, but not worth the price. Just take some sandwich fixings. There are a few picnic tables out near the water.

We had a great time at the Buckeye Tree Lodge.

Three River's is a lovely town on the border of the Sequoia National Park and a perfect base for exploring. The Buckeye is situated right on the boundary, and was surrounded by beautiful grounds, the river is merely a few feet away from the back of the rooms.
The rooms themselves are a good size, well equipped (fresh coffee beans to grind!), although the bathroom was a little small (but very clean). We had a king size room which had a table and chairs and a lovely outside area to sit with your breakfast in the morning. The breakfast basket was a god save (we arrived late in the evening and had nothing!) and I would guess the muffins are homemade.
The staff were very helpful when we needed to arrange an extension of our stay in Three Rivers and made us feel very welcome.

Thank you Buckeye!

The Buckeye Lodge in Three River, CA is all about getting away from Suburbia. It is located mere yards from the Kawaeh River which breathtaking in its beauty. The Lodge itself is a cozy, older facility with the comfortable personal touches of a caring staff, including homemade muffins in the breakfast basket and real coffee beans for fresh coffee included in the room. If you're looking for "home away from home," this is not the place. But...if you're looking to escape from it all and relax and just drink in the beauty around you...this is the place. The sounds of the river sang us to sleep and the beauty of the morning practically called us from sleep to climb around the rocks and just bask in the beauty around us. We will totally be going back. Totally!

The Buckeye Tree Lodge is as close to Sequoia National Park as you can get without actually being inside the park, that alone is a great reason to stay here. The rooms are modest yet clean and while the bed wasn't very comfortable it made up for it with the lovely view and setting. If you don't expect too much at this location you won't be disappointed.

We just returned from 2 nights along the Kawaeh River, at the south entrance of Sequoia National Park, CA. We stayed at the Buckeye Tree Lodgei in Three Rivers, known for its friendly people, jazz festival and good food. The proprietors and office staff made us feel at home & gave us excellent care. It is reasonably priced and includes free WiFi, long distance calls in the U.S., and a breakfast basket...with coffee beans you grind yourself! We forgot an item in our room. There was a message on our voice mail before we got home offering arrangements to get it back to us. Don't miss staying at the Buckeye Tree Lodge!

Room Tip: We went with another couple and stayed in rooms 8 & 10. Both rooms are upstairs, but on street...
