“Average RV park Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2011

I'll start by saying that we are not hard core campers, we "camp" in an RV about once a year or every other year. So from our experience this RV park wasn't any better or worse than any other one we've been to. We're not the kind of people who hang out in or around our camp all day; we leave in the morning to go explore the local area and only return to eat dinner and sleep.

The parking distance between RV's was standard and included a picnic bench and grassy area. There is wifi, but it's only available in one place at the park. Along with full hook-ups we also had cable, which for us was a first at an RV park. The river was nice and even though we weren't parked right next to the river we could still hear it at night. Across the street is a market that you can easily buy various items from.

We were a little worried about staying here after reading some of the reviews here and on Yelp, but it turned out we were worried for no reason. This is a very family friendly park and in fact most of the people we saw were families. It can get a little loud at night; on our last night there were several people around us blasting different music. Thankfully at 10pm the owner went around and had everyone turn down their music and we couldn't hear it anymore. I don't think anyone should be worried about staying here, we left our chairs out all day and night and so did everyone else and it was fine, everyone kept to themselves.

“Not the place to go for wholesome family camping”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

Kaweah River Park is located at the foothills of the Sequoia Mountain range with a beautiful river running through the lower part of the park and plenty of shade trees peppering the scenery.

Because the sites have grass, the owners do not allow tent camping on the RV sites. Tent camping is available in another part of the park.

The RV sites are situated so that each successive space is recessed. The result of this is to bring the water, electrical, cable…and sewage…connections of the space next to yours up closer to your RV’s front door, awning, living and outdoor dining area. Not good.

As this is a campground nicely located on a riverbank, insects can be a problem.

The ‘free WiFi’ advertised on the website was down for all 5-days of our stay.

We were told that each site had a bbq but it wasn’t specified that this is apparently not the case at the RV sites. We had to travel about 40 minutes one-way to the Wal-Mart in Visalia to buy a bbq.

The park has a policy of requiring a $20 bill or a driver’s license in order to check out equipment from the main office. While this makes sense for any equipment that is physically carried away, they also require it for a physical key that must be acquired for access to the swimming pool. This is very inconvenient as some swimmers (like me) lock their wallets, cash, etc) in the RV before going to the pool and will find themselves trekking back and forth, passing the pool, to get something to leave as a deposit at the office. A keypad with access code to give the campers would be very convenient.

The park management has a very liberal policy regarding noise management among themselves and among the various camping groups. At about 20 minutes after 8am one morning, a park employee fired up a forklift and spent the next couple of hours loudly moving sand to the shoreline which, until then, we thought we were lucky to be camping so close to. That anybody managing a camp ground thought that this would be a good idea was bizarre.

Additionally, others and we complained several times about a large, multi-family gathering that felt they had to play their particular musical preference loud enough for the entire park to hear. At one point the management informed my wife that their policy is that the volume level of any music played at a site must be kept low enough so as not to be heard more than three spaces away. Even though my wife related this policy statement to me, I didn’t hear it first-hand and still find it hard to believe. I guess if you’re one or two spaces away, you’re screwed if you don’t like Lady Gaga. However, that appeared to be the policy in practice as the music didn’t stop for any extended period of time regardless of our complaints. On our last night in the park, more partiers arrived and so we, not having any faith that management would effectively deal with the sound problem, we left a day early. Management refused to refund us for the night not spent there.
