I wish we had planned to stay longer! Mars is a great host; she took care of everything. The River Studio has a wall of windows overlooking the river (as well as a truly great hot shower and upgraded bathroom; real coffee cups and wine glasses, great books to read, etc.) and the grounds are really beautiful. The staff were both attentive and out-of-sight at the same time! They lit candles outside, laid out blankets in case we got cold, and started a bonfire for us down by the river. We were so relaxed and will definitely go back.

What a beautiful Guest House in an unbelievable setting. We stayed for two nights and it was just a haven of calm. To sit out by the river, or on the balcony and soak up the scenery was idyllic.
Thank you Mars for your hospitality - we will tell all our friends about your little bit of paradise.
If you are looking to get away from the modern hotels with music and amusements this is the place for you. Ideal for Sequoia and Kings Canyon.
Dining is limited in the area but what is there is very good

Room Tip: Any room will do.

I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was at the Rio Sierra Riverhouse. We had the Hideaway for a couple of nights and it was great. The staff was fantastic for many of reasons people have already listed. Our place and grounds were clean, the firepit was freshened up every day, etc. We loved the atmosphere with just the amount of privacy to attention. My girl friend and I cooked and grilled all of our meals and whenever we needed something, the staff was a short walk away to help us out.

Only drawback was that the little space heater made the place really toasty so make sure you play around with the settings well before you sleep or you're going to wake up in a hot sweat.

Tips: Make sure you turn the fan on if you're cooking some delicious bacon or you'll set the fire detector off.

Room Tip: If you want more privacy, choose the hideaway. It's a bit tight in there, but you have the whole...

We were made very welcome by Margaret, who shared the story about how she turned this place into the jewel it is. The place is so well kept and clean, and it was the best experience we had on
our 3 week trip visiting California from Norway. It is a perfect spot for kids as well as adults. We had so much fun swimming in the river, and wish we had more than just 2 nights here. All 11 of us agreed that this is the best place ever...Thanks again Margaret for an unforgettable experience...

Room Tip: Main house has a fabulous bedroom with balcony overlooking the river!!!

My wife and I and our two children stayed at the Rio Sierra in early July having spent several days in the national park and it was a great way to finish up our visit! The owner/proprietor (Mars) was great and we spent our entire stay enjoying the beach next to the river and the fantastic vistas. Our room had a kitchen and two beds, it was clean and provided plenty of room for our family of four. I would definitely recommend the Rio Sierra for bird watchers as I saw many bird species along the river. We ordered a pizza from town and spent the whole night next to the river enjoying the views and the fire, where we made sores. A great night that I will never forget. Kudos to Mars and the Rio Sierra, a really great place.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the kitchen if you are visiting with a family.

The Rio Sierra Riverhouse is a special place, right on the river and close to Sequoia. We were immediately impressed by the property upon entering the bright blue gate. Great attention to detail is given....from the lanterns lighting the path to the river to the many fire pits and sitting areas carefully placed around the property. The staff is welcoming, helpful and very friendly. My husband and I stayed here with our 1 year old baby and had one of the best travel experiences yet! We stayed in the Garden Room, which didn't have a view of the river, but was very cozy, clean and comfortable. The bathroom is quite spacious and has a bathtub. The river is easily accessible from any room. We followed Mars' recommendations for food and were not disappointed. I recommend the We Three Restaurant for breakfast, Sierra Subs and Salads for lunch and The Pizza Factory for dinner. I highly recommend the Rio Sierra Riverhouse...it's a special, little gem!

We chose the Rio Sierra for our family for two nights because of its location near Sequoia, and its idyllic spot on the Kaweah River. We weren’t disappointed. Mars and her friendly staff have created a special place, and made us feel immediately comfortable and well looked after. We chose the Master Suite, which is a big 2 bedroom, with a newly remodeled bath, a deck (nice for drying swimsuits, and sitting out on in the cool mornings drinking coffee), 2 couches, a fireplace, a TV, microwave oven, and a table to spread out food on.

The location on the river is really perfect- there are large, mostly-flat rocks and pools you can take a dip in right in front of the lodge, and it’s right above “Slickie,” a large, calm pool with a narrow sand entry that’s frequented by local families. The water (at least in July) was cool to the point of refreshing, but not cold (perfect after hiking in Sequoia). Because of the rocks, and the river, this probably isn’t the place for REALLY young or really rambunctious children. We bought two “floaties” in Three Rivers at the (surprisingly good) grocery store, and our 4 year old and 6 year old had a great time. In the evening, the staff build small bonfires around the property, and it was fun to sit around those, listen to the river, and watch the bats up high in the sky.

It’s about a 6 mile drive to the Ash Mountain entrance of Sequoia Park, and then about 45 minutes up a twisty mountain road to get to the “Giant Forest.” But Rio Sierra is also a destination in its own right, and one not to be missed!
