“Romantic, lovely, historic and a true taste of Santa Fe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

Location, location, location. Can't get better than this. One of the oldest (if not the oldest) hotels in Santa Fe. Historic property. Very safe for singles to stay. Excellent room/maintenance service. Hit the rooftop bar every sunset for happy hour with very friendly bartenders and patrons. Rooms are clean and spacious. Bathrooms small (remember this is a historic property so bathrooms are small). Breakfast is fast and great. Recommend the oatmeal. Front desk super nice. Property Manager up front and personal. Quiet rooms with the cathedral tower next door rings their historical bell throughout the city. Feels like you are in another country. Highly recommend.

La Fonda on the Plaza is situated in a historical building in the center of Santa Fe. The guest rooms are full of charm and New Mexico character. Our room was quite large with a separate sitting area and the bed was comfortable with luxury linens and several pillows. The staff at La Fonda were very helpful and friendly, especially Adrian. We also enjoyed meeting so many wonderful hotel guests in the expansive reception/lobby area and courtyard restaurant, La Plazuela.

Additionally, our dog Sidney had a restful stay at this pet friendly hotel.

We stayed in a King Suite which featured beautiful handpainted furniture. The sitting room was wonderful for kicking back and reading and listening to the nearby tolling church bells. The historic plaza with its shops and restaurants is right outside. The rooftop bar offers incredible sunset views and the bartenders were very nice. I would hightly recommend the prickly pear margarita at the nearby Coyote Cafe and breakfast at Cafe Pasquale's.

i stayed at the La Fonda for a short 'get away break" 2 nights in September, We booked a suite room, location was great but the rooms are a little dated for the room price. There was a fridge in the room which was a bonus. On the second day we received a notice that the hotel would have no power from 1 am to 4 am approx , according to the written notice this was a " scheduled " event, one person in my party had medical needs and being with out power during the night was not an option for us, I was dismayed that a nominal refund for this inconvenience was not offered to the guests when the power outage notce was placed in the rooms, We ended up switching hotels at some inconvenience to us, I would have appreciated an e mail, or some information on this before I checked in for my stay. I personally would not pay full tarrif for a hotel without power.

We stayed a couple of nights. Room large but a bit shabby, windows very dirty. We were told the regular rate for the room would normally be double the amount we paid, As I made the reservation on the phone I took the word of the reservationist. Turns out I was duped. Good location, nice tile on the ground floor, but not a personable experience.
Fitness center / a joke. Like a closet. Swimming pool area run down, enclosed in a small courtyard, pool water was very cloudy.
Lots of noise from neighboring rooms and hallway.

We had one of the deluxe rooms for three nights. The room was OK. A bit dated but the place is old and historical. The food was stellar in either the lounge for their lunch buffet or a light dinner. Food in the main dining room was wonderful. Fairly attentive service at all the venues. A surly concierge who has probably worked at the job for far too long but he knows where all the dead bodies lie. The main problem with the place is the noise. Paper thin doors to the hallways and adjoining rooms as well. Without even trying you can listen in to conversations going on in the next room. As for sleeping forget about it. Elevator noise most of the night along with drunk friends biding friends good night at all hours. Great food. Great location. But the paper thin doors and related noises made for a miserable experience. Then there was the fact someone kept knocking on our door. Probably just a ghost as no one was ever there. Sadly, there is only a yes or no if we want to recommend the hotel. I would only recommend the place to someone who doesn't mind noise at all hours.
