“A Real Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

The Inn at Santa Fe is located a bit on the edge of Santa Fe, but the access to the Old Town and the Roundhouse (don't miss this!) really are easy and the value at the Inn is excellent. The rooms are well-appointed (great bed and shower!), the breakfast really good with lots of choices, and the staff quite amazing (thank you to the manager: Victoria, the night desk: Shirley, the day desk: Oscar, and the person who runs and runs to keep the breakfast fresh for everyone, Cesar). We felt appreciated. Thanks to everyone!

Room Tip: The Inn is in the process of adding additional outlets above the desk area -- so if you have multipl...

As tourists on our first trip to Santa Fee we wanted a hotel near the highway but within close proximity to downtown.  While traveling we happened to strike up a conversation with another couple and they recommended this hotel.
The price was good for what we received. A good room which was clean and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast in the morning included a wide variety of options and was well presented. We were well pleased and would definitely recommend the hotel to others.

The hotel in general is nice, staff is very attentive and courteous, but the hotel has some issues. Rooms are rather small, some with two twin beds, which are really uncomfortable. The front desk is constantly understaffed, therefore attention is really slow. Breakfast was good, but nothing to celebrate. The hotel is right next door to a rather small outlet mall and far away from the downtown, which is really what you would like to go to Santa Fe in the first place. For the price tag it has, is not such a bad option, but if you have the chance and the pockets, choose one of the very nice and fancy hotels in the downtown area instead.

We love Tripadvisor. We trust the people's reviews as a true measure of the value of their experience. The Inn at Santa Fe got pretty good reviews. The booking agencies listed on the page offered a 75.00 rate so we negotiated a room at that price with the hotel front desk person .Little did we suspect that a negotiated price would land us in an 'economy room 139'-small with barely enough room to walk around the bed which was comfortable enough. Apparently the '100's floor' designates the discount rooms.

We wanted a hotel with 'wet services' and that is the reason we picked this hotel. When we inquired during the initial phone call about the working condition of the facilities we were assured by the staff that everything was in working order. Beware! Hotel staff often says 'everything is fine' because they don't know or care.

Upon arrival the first thing we noticed was that the outer security door's card lock did not work so anyone could walk in. The second thing was a small amount of debris in the hall. The desk personnel were very nice. Excited to explorer the 'wet area' we asked to see it immediately. They pointed us toward the pool area and the first thing I noticed was an outdoor seating are with a couple of tables and chairs with a winter's accumulation of unswept leaves and debris-looking lonely and abandon.

Undeterred, we ran back to our room and changed into our bathing suits. Ran back to the 'wet area' ready for our spa experience. First thing we read the instructions on warming up the hot sauna, and cranked it up. Next we turned the little timer knob that was supposed to activate the jets in the tub. But...NADA...ZIP...ZILCH! That's the sound of a whirlpool hot tub not whirling. Five jets, one pitiful stream.

Certain that some major glitch had occurred, I jumped out and ran to the front desk person who summoned the maintenance guy who accompanied me to the equipment room where he stood for a moment ostensibly surveying the working order of the equipment. "Everything looks fine" he said in an effort to sound knowledgeable and convincing. Disappointed, I resigned myself to a mere hot tub without the whirlpool. But within minutes my friend and I noticed a burning sensation in a most delicate unmentionable area of our bodies. Adding insult to injury, the sauna never warmed up despite assurances from the staff-who apparently never used one in good working order.

On the morning of the second day, a previous guest's nitrogen patch fell out of the bedclothes on which we slept. EWWWWW! That afternoon we went back to the hot tub to see if anything had improved. Miraculously the jets-all five-were working fine. BUT a strong odor of bleach wafted up from the hot tub water offending our nostrils. Bleach is a unique smell unlike any other. I have a hot tub and know the difference between chlorine and bleach. When we tried to point out the danger of having a quantity of bleach in a hot tub, the maintenance guy fluffed it off saying that the PH in the pool was fine. When I tested the water back at mi casa using my test strip it read off the charts in both chlorine and cyanuric acid.

Despite the excellent breakfast, the whole experience left me disappointed and disillusioned in the character of the employees and the general quality of the service including their response to our queries.

Dear hotel staff everywhere-Don't lie, conceal, exaggerate or otherwise deceive your patrons: we're too smart for that. And we will use the power of our Tripadvisor pen to warn other travelers: The Inn? Not worth the price!

Room Tip: Don't take the 100's rooms

They gave us the AWFUL room 124. This room has a broken telephone, broken heater, and the sliding bathroom door was broken. This room does not even have normal down comforters like the other rooms. AND best of all you are right next to the galley and the dining room so you get woken up at 6:30 am. The carpet felt like there were fleas in it. Oh yes, and the room is so cramped with the 2 queens and a support beam that it felt like a scene from the 3 stooges.

I would give the hotel 1 star, but they did move us to a nicer room the next day, a suite.

But the thing that bothers us is the lady that was the night attendant from the first night when we arrived, why did she put us in this room?. There were other rooms available, ( including the suite they eventually moved us into.) Why intentionally put somebody in a room where the bathroom door can fall on your head when there are other rooms available? Was she too busy to accommodate us, or did she not care? We asked several times for a new room, and she told us about a king room. Why not give us the suite if they had it available? All the attendants there knew this was an awful room.

We wasted valuable vacation time switching rooms. It also completely ruined our impression of the hotel.

For lesser reasons we have switched hotels, but we had a tired child with us.

Room Tip: Stay away from room 124 They give this room to people when they are feeling mean.

Stayed here while passing through Santa Fe. Room was spotless, bed was comfortable. Felt very upscale and the price was very reasonable! There is a free breakfast and it was made with fresh ingredients and well attended. Lots of families traveling when we stayed there, but they had an overflow seating area that was comfortable. Easy on and off the highway. Factory stores within walking distance. Plenty of parking for my trailer.

Room Tip: If you want to nap during the day, steer clear of rooms near the self service laundry. There was no...

We took family down to Santa Fe for a quick holiday trip and had another great stay at the Inn. Any questions and requests were warmly accommodated. Our front desk representative was wonderful to work with during our entire stay. He checked us in and out with professional hospitality. Part of our enthusiasm for the trip was to stay at the Inn - loved the breakfast. The hotel was very full, but the hotel still felt warm and cordial. Great care is given to make each guest experience wonderful. This is a great choice for a budget conscience traveler, without compromising quality. You get more than you pay for. Great job Victoria for a well managed establishment.

Room Tip: I enjoy a second floor room closer to the middle of the hotel. The ground floor can be busy with man...
