On the good side, the Hampton Inn is a ten-minute drive from the Plaza but their rates are one-third the price of staying near the Plaza. It's a good place for families with its free breakfast.
The downside is that the hotel still has smoking rooms. The second floor has around 50 rooms, with only four of them smoking. However, the nights we stayed a guest in one of the smoking rooms left the door to his room open to the hallway, probably in an effort to reduce the effect of second-hand smoke on his own children. (His children were quite lively...they made the stay less than quiet.) The entire hallway reeked of smoke. Until Hilton joins Marriott and Starwood in making all its properties smoke-free, I plan to avoid Hilton properties (including Hampton Inn) at all costs.
The wireless Internet was the slowest I've experienced since dial-up days. Download speeds were only around 100 kbps. (The typical home broadband speed is 5000 kpbs or more.) I was unable to use Skype, or even stream *audio*.
Avoid staying near the smoking rooms.

Thank you for the review; we really appreciate your time. We utilize guests’ reviews to assess insights within our hotel operations and we have reviewed your feedback with the hotel team and we looked at the internet problems in order to make sure this issue does not happen again. We found that we currently have AT&T and century-link providing internet to our guests for a faster and more reliable connection. We exceed the Hampton standards for speed internet. We also have an upgrade coming up for internet soon which should help with any current issues. I appreciate your time in reviewing our hotel and look forward to seeing you during your next visit to the area.
