“Perfect choice for our wedding weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2009

My new husband and I chose Inn and Spa at Loretto as the place to stay for our wedding weekend in Santa Fe. We had visited several hotels in town, but there were several things we really liked about Loretto. We liked the room decor-- the warm, southwestern red colored walls and the stuffed animals on the beds. The "Living Room" bar/lounge area also caught our eye as a comfortable place to get a drink with our friends.

We stayed 5 nights in a "deluxe" room. It had a kiva fireplace (with candles instead of wood or gas), a 4-posted bed, and a balcony (shared with the room next door). The rooms were very quiet: we did not hear any noises from next door. I took advantage of the heated pool several mornings for a little swim.

The bar was a bit of a disappointment in that it closed early (along with the rest of Santa Fe, it seems). I was told that May is still their "winter" season, and that in June they would be open an hour later.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, from the valets to the front desk to the concierge. The day before our wedding I had a minor emergency with my dress, and the concierge made several phonecalls to find a dry cleaner who would be able to help me.

Overall, we had a fantastic, relaxing stay at Loretto and were sad to leave. True, the price is steep, especially when you tack on the high resort taxes plus $18/day valet parking + $12/day "service fee". These rates ARE comparable to the other downtown hotels so that's kind of just what it costs. The hotel location, amenities, and overall experience are excellent. We look forward to coming back soon.

P.S. Be sure to try the blue corn pancakes at breakfast in the Luminaria Restaurant!

We recently returned from Santa Fe and the Inn at Loretto. What a beautiful place it is! Our room was nice with a small balcony. We were on the west side, so we were unable to use it in the afternoons. Hotel is very well situated and SO convenient to the plaza. Our room was decorated very nice. The oxygen bottle was a nice touch for us from lower elevations! The restaurant is lacking. We wouldn't recommend it. The 80 minute hot stone massage I had was ok. Not a first class experience that I had anticipated. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and will stay there again. We had PLENTY of hot water. That was the first thing my wife checked out!

they charge extra for wireless Internet service ($10/night I think). I was surprised to find I had to pay extra for a service that is free in many, if not most, hotels these days. And it's not even for good service. Response times were glacially slow.

We found the hotel to be comfortable, enjoyable, and right in the heart of where we wanted to be. I thought the room was perfect in it's Southwestern colors & styles. We were very happy that we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. We took several walks on the trail next to the river. We walked to dinner & breakfast on the plaza. Shopping near the hotel was plentiful and fun. We were lucky to have a view of the wind sculptures from our balcony, so that was nice. I found the staff to be pleasant in all of our encounters. I would definately stay here again!

This hotel has a serious hot water problem!! It also is very dark. Doors and cielings are low. I'm 6'5" and couldn't stand up straight in the shower.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2009

The lukewarm heading is my overall reaction. Hotel looks great from the outside. The lobby bar area is nice, with a ramshead sculpture mounted over the fireplace and some cozy sofas to relax in. The rooms - not so great. The room and bathroom are small. The firepace has oil candles placed in it that don't give off much glow. The decor was 3 on a scale of 10. The lamps were mismatched (even the bedside pair). Too much red and black in the color scheme, which wasn't very soothing. Overall the inelegant appointments and shabby execution reminded me of a cost-cutting high school stage set. I know that sounds harsh for what is listed as a 4*star hotel, but that's the point. In it's favor, the bed is soft and comfortable, and the small shared balcony is great for views.
The location is perfect, and it seems that's what prompts the high rate. In a less touristy city, the rate would be about $75. Most hotels here are overpriced, and to be perfectly honest, none of them looked that spectacular, even La Fonda..
The sneaky $12 per day "service fee" covers your housekeeping tip, among other things.
