We spent five nights in January, traveling with friends to celebrate birthdays. They stayed in a famous hotel across town, but we booked here to be closer to the plaza. We liked our hotel better than theirs. Location was perfect and we found it to be very pleasant in most aspects.
The public areas of the hotel were lovely, warm, and comfortable. The restaurant was good, although service quality fluctuated drastically. One waiter was terrific, the next was terrible.
Our bed was very comfortable, and the linens were good. But temperature was an issue. The weather was bitter cold, and we had to turn on the heat, but we could not get the room to reach a pleasant temperature. It was too hot or too cold almost all the time. And way too dry. Eventually, we figured out to turn on the heat and open the balcony door so we could be warm without roasting. Hated to waste the energy, but it was the only way we found to avoid parching.
Our room had access to a balcony, but it was shared with the room next door, which was a little creepy since we didn't know the occupants. The room itself was lovely, but we found it to be difficult for a five day stay. There was not enough drawer or counter space to unpack our luggage completely. The bathroom was not as good as we expected for a "spa." Small tub, cramped space, and way too dark. The pedestal sink also didn't provide enough surface for toiletries. Most unsettling was that there was no safe in the room, and it was unnerving to leave electronics, cash, and jewelry unattended. But, we did, and nothing was missing when we returned.
Staff was pleasant and helpful. The positives for outweighed the negatives and we will return.
