“An Old Friend Has Fallen on Hard Times”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2010

We've stayed at this hotel many times in the past and appreciated its location and value. But when we returned after a 5 year absence, we were shocked to find that the property has deteriorated and there has been no attempt at maintenance.

I am including photos from our recent visit so that folks can draw their own conclusions. Our room was not particularly clean and definitely had not been vacuumed. The front desk had no computer service at check-out and promised to send an email of final charges. They didn't.

I like a bargain as well as the next person, but this unclean, poorly maintained property is no longer on my list for a repeat visit.

This little hotel is reminescent of time when Route 66 was THE HIGHWAY! Old style hotel, updated rooms, and staff that still believe in treating guest like family. The beds are a little hard, but the rooms are updated in southwestern style. What the beds lack in softness, the location and charm make up for. This hotel is located adjacent to the Old Pink Adobe and the Inn of Five Graces. Turn right out of the parking lot and you are at the Loretto Chapel. The rates are extremely reasonable for a hotel this close to the square! I highly recommend if your go to Santa Fe to dig in, walk the town, and just need a sweet place to come to at the end of a long day.

Stayed here for a wedding in Santa Fe. Rooms and beds were just okay.Location was great if your there to sight see and shop around downtown. You have to pay for parking but it's cheap in comparison to other parking areas which aren't easy to come by. Restaurant was okay if you like that type of food but was overpriced.Pool was average size and very clean.Service was okay.. Santa Fe is filled with overpriced shops filled with items probably purchased in Mexico for a quarter of the price. The historic churchs are wonderful .Overall, in comparison to other hotels in the area which range 250-350 a night this is a great bargain.Save money by staying in this motel because you will need it to finance the rest of your trip!

We decided to give this place a shot because we've been to several other hotels in Santa Fe. All in all, for the price, the property was nice. It's layed out like a Motel, big parking area, etc... but it's quaint. Parking, as with most places in Santa Fe, is pay for play. $8 bucks when we were there. Luckily, we had an alternate location to put the car.

I would recommend this hotel if you're looking for a bargain but want good location. For the price, you can't beat the location. Super-close to The Plaza and most restaurants.

We usually stay at the El Rey, which is Santa Fe's best kept secret, but after our stay at Garrett's we may have changed our loyalty to Garrett's. Yes, it is a motel, but the locaiton, the clean outdoor pool, friendly staff, and tidy rooms will have us returning. We don't visit cities to sit in the room, and with Santa Fe literally at your door step there is little reason to stay in your room besides sleeping and enjoying the clean and well maintained outdoor pool. Location and clean rooms can't be beat!

Over 160 bucks a night, which included 8 dollar parking fee. The room was incredibly hot when we arrived-room was facing the sun. 1/3 of the room do. We cranked on the air and left for dinner. Upon returning the air conditioning wasn't a match for the warm sun. It didnt help that the air conditioner was positioned at the back of the room in a little hallway making it almost impossible to feel the relief. The location was wonderful, a block off the square and very quiet.
And the staff were friendly....

Great location and was psyched as we pulled up, thinking we were getting a real nice value. Well.... outdated rooms, loud air conditioning, stains on chairs and on bedding blankets, also looked as if the one bed was made without the sheets being changed, as they were wrinkled and not crisp. We ended up bringing in our own sleeping bags and pillows because we were tired and didn't want to change hotels. The hotel did offer to switch rooms but why go from one bad to another? Fortunately, we survived a rather fitful night of sleep and I WILL NOT be going back.
