Just finished my stay at Garrett's and I must say - It fit the bill perfectly. I travel at least 2-3x per month for work/pleasure and I mostly stay at nice to really nice hotels. Yes, Garrett's is old and a little threadworn (old outside hallway carpets, little broken things, bumps and scrapes to exterior - interior) However: bathroom was immaculately clean, shower and bed just fine. It's not a romantic hotel, more of an old motel - but the location is EXCELLENT! Right across from the Capital and literally a 7 minute walk to the heart of Old Santa Fe plaza. Really, if you want a spa or a hotel to 'lounge about' you could do better, but if you are in Santa Fe to enjoy all that the oldtown/plaza have to offer, then who cares if your room is fancy? This is a great place to stay - to get out and see the wonder of SFe. Parking is a very affordable $8 per day/night, and that is key to Santa Fe staying, as you'll want to both walk everywhere and leave your car behind most of the time, but have it readily available for out-of-Santa Fe side trips. There really is no better value in the heart of this beautiful city. There is also a nice pool, and the families/kids around seemed pretty pleased. I found this comfortable, clean and very worthwhile place to explore the city from.
