We just came back from a three night stay at the Santa Fe Sage Inn.
The occasion was the Santa Fe annual bike race. We got a great price well under the regular price. The beds were queens and they were comfortable although the pillows were flat. The free breakfast was wonderful every morning with fresh fruit and lots of choices..

We booked our 4 night stay as part of a package. We stayed in room 224, towards the back of the motel. Mind you, this is no 5 star resort. If you're looking for a clean, quiet place to lay your head at night, then this is a great deal. We wanted to save money on our accomodations so we'd have more to spend on restaurants, day trips, cultural experiences...I mean, you're not in Santa Fe to spend time in your hotel room, right? We appreciated being able to walk next door to Whole Foods for whatever we needed. Breakfast at the motel was basic and plentiful, housekeeping was great, towels and TP were in abundance. The pool area was well kept, and the pool was warm. It's close to highways, close to the plaza, close to a few restaurants. We never had issues with noise or the AC. We did notice spotty reception with the TV sometimes, and the free wireless internet was sometimes spotty as well.

  • Liked — Clean, safe, and quiet.
  • Disliked — The bed was a little stiff.

My stay at the Sage Inn, Santa Fe started out fairly well. I asked for a one hour early check in and was told no rooms were clean as of yet. So, I went to the parking lot to wait an hour. (From 3PM to 4PM May 17, 2007). At 4PM I was allowed to check in and was told I would receive a room upugrade. My reservation was for a double queen and am I glad I was upgraded. The room I was upgraded to was so small for two people one had to stand still while the other squeezed between the bed and the dresser. The bathroom standing room is so small you have to step outside to change your mind! Believe me, it is small. The bathtub drain is so slow by the time I finished with my shower (I take five minute showers) I was standing in water above my ankles. The airconditioner came on when initially started, would aircondition for eight to ten minutes then shut off and may not come on again for hours. Fortunately the temperatures in Santa Fe on this visit was cool at night so I put on the fan and turned it to vent so I brought in outside cool air. Do no depend on the airconditioner units especially in the summer. They are old and have been abused by passers by on the sidewalks. One houskeeping rolling basket was left ouside in the rain with six or so pillows allowed to become soaking wet. That I noticed on my first day then the morning after the second night the pillows were gone. I hope they didn't end up in someone's room later. Then, of all things, when I was exiting the bathroom after cleaning up for the day how surprised I was to have housekeeping walk IN ON ME naked. She was quite surprised as I walked to the door naked and pointed to the do not disturb sign hanging on the door knob . Folks the price to stay here is attractive. This is Santa Fe. It is a great place to go as a tourist however be prepared to spend a little more for quality overnight comfort. Do yourself a favor and find other places to spend your money. You'll be glad you did.

This Is An Old Motel...not the place you see in their pictures on the web! The Sage Inn is Not the place to stay if you desire the following in accommodations: Nice furnishings, a feeling of Safety and a guest room that is larger than a closet. The "Supreme" or "Deluxe" king that they offered had a king bed with a gross red bedspread that only emphasized the two large body size sink holes in the mattress. Again, this is an old run down Motel with little two story buildings that look like army barracks. A Motel that past the very nice lobby and eating area is a dump. Don't be fooled by their web info. P.S. Their security guy looked very odd and sported a black turban and a long beard...a bit uncomfortable for us.

This is a great no-frills motel type lodging facility within easy walking distance to both the Plaza and the Guadalupe shopping district. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast consists of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, hardboiled eggs, and assorted bagels & toast. The breakfast room is sunny and comfortable. If you are visiting Santa Fe to see the sights, this is an affordable place to stay.

This is basically a motel and not a hotel. Cars are parcked in front of the rooms. The place does not have much of a lobby and lacks lounge, restaurant and bar. It is located right at a main road which makes for some road noise in the front units. Breakfast is free and rather basic. The heating and aircondition window units old and quite noisy. The bathrooms are cramped and the size of a closet at best. Rooms are clean and have some typical southwesters decoration. Make sure you reserve a room on an upper floor in the back of the property. In my opinion, a double rooms is not worth more than $ 70 to $ 80 a night. The only advantage of the place is that it is in walking distance of the old Santa Fe city center without commanding the prices you expect to pay if you are in Santa Fe center.

Did some research, got a great rate. $49 per night. I have to say it was a great value. I took a leap of faith with my family based on reviews on this site and was not dissapointed. Its a simple, nothing fancy motel. The Lobby was very nice (two computers for internet access-free). Plenty of information for visitors. Staff was great. Breakfast was more than adequate for a continental freebie. Best part of this was the location. Aside from a Travelodge which is across the street (and not NEARLY as nice) this is the closest of the "cheap" places to stay to the plaza. If you turned right out of the motel(by car) and started a stop watch, you'd probably be at the plaza in about 45-90 seconds. No joke! On our way out of town we drove past all the "usual suspects" chain motels and were surprised at what they were charging- when I looked- compared to how far they were from Downtown Santa Fe.

The property itself was clean. It had been redone recently and was done nicely. Rooms were equipped with more literature for visitors and notebooks from the motel with 'need to know' information. Our only complaint was the water rarely got hot in three days. warm to very warm was as good as it got. Not enough to make us move to the Four Seasons. :-)

Looking for a room, a shower, a tv and a place to hang your hat for a day or two in Santa Fe on the cheap? Tough to beat Sage Inn. Id definitely return there next time in town.
