“Our favorite get-away!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

We've lost count of the number of times we've stayed at the Inn of the Governors over the last several years and there are many reasons we keep coming back. First, the location, two blocks from the Plaza, is perfect. The property is well kept and always clean. We've stayed in many different rooms and every bed has been wonderful. Luxurious bed and bath linens are something we always appreciate. The atmosphere is quaint - very old Santa Fe. If you are tired of the same old, boring chain hotel interiors, you'll love Inn of the Governors. Free parking and a fabulous free breakfast buffet just icie the cake. Great, inexpensive food in the Del Charro Bar and Grill (located on the property) not to mention our favorite Margaritas of all time.
Kudos to the staff - from management to maids, Inn of the Governors has the friendliest, most helpful staff you will ever meet.

We thouroughly enjoyed our trip to Santa Fe largely because of the beautiful Inn of the Governors. The room was nicely decorated in Southwestern decor, was close to the downtown tourist area, and had all the ammenities we wanted. They offer a tea and sherry hour in the afternoon where we had the chance to meet and socialize with a lot of other guests. The breakfast had a lot of different options for those who want to eat healthy and I found it a very good and very convenient. We also enjoyed the pool which was a perfect temperature for our 8 month old. The hotel staff was friendly and very accomodating. We were able to order food and drinks at the bar and take them back to our room or sit in the lobby. Some of the other reviews mentioned the parking being a little cramped, but we were always able to find a spot relatively close to the entrance.

We loved this hotel! It was delightful, with so many little perks to make the stay more comfortable. The staff were very hospitable, and even cleaned the snow off our car after a surprise snowfall. The rooms were very quaint, well appointed, and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast buffet was superb, with good healthy choices and great coffee. The attached bar serves excellent margaritas and is very cozy with a fireplace. Many enjoyed the afternoon happy hour with complimentary sherry and cookies. It was right downtown so we could walk to everything, including the Georgia O'Keefe museum. The top rated restaurants, Galisteo Bistro & Wine Bar and Dinner for Two are just blocks away. They were both wonderful! The hotel is very reasonable and when we booked directly with them we received a gift card to the bar. I hated to leave, we had such a wonderful experience here. The heated pool was very pretty as well. Parking was easy and available. I can't think of one negative about this hotel. The heat lamps even made the floor tiles in the bathroom warm to the feet! Coffee pots in the room was a plus for me.

Picked the Inn from the many positive reviews on Tripadvisor and was not disappointed. Great value, wonderful room - received upgrade for small charge to a room with fireplace. Comfortable, charming, it is like an inn with hotel service. And a restaurant that stays open until midnight. Breakfast fabulous, and wonderful added value - free wifi and parking.
I also left several clothing items in the room and housekeeping and staff were incredible about immediate return and getting in contact with me. Would recommend without reservation.

My wife and I spent a long Friday thought Monday weekend at this hotel in Santa Fe visiting my daughter. I think it might be the best value in that city. The room and service was great as was the price. The complementary full breakfast, afternoon "Sherry and Tea," great bar and free high-speed Internet made this hotel a "must-stay" to anyone visiting this city. And it was only a short walk to the historic Santa Fe plaza. I'm guessing you could pay more in Santa Fe but will not find anything better, unless you just want to pay the most to say you did.

Sherry hour was enjoyable. The white sherry is like a Chardonnay...not all that sweet. The pool was an adventure as it is outside...once you got in it was hard to get out into the cold...the big warm gowns helped....The breakfast was great, the best free breakfast I have had...you are given real plates and cutlery unlike the plastic stuff dished out at most places...you are expected to tip a few bucks with breakfast though... We had some trouble getting the wifi working though once we unplugged the modem in our roomit worked fine...The bar restaurant on site was cheaper than most places nearby and had very good food and beverages....there was big kiva fireplaces and heaters hanging from the ceiling...a great atmosphere and a fun time...

This hotel has a number of things to like a lot, but it also has some quirks.

The good: The location cannot be beaten; the hotel is only a couple of blocks from the Plaza, so most will be able to walk there and won't need their cars much. The breakfast is fantastic: A true breakfast buffet, with eggs, bacon or sausage, fruit, cereals, and other great items. The breakfast space can sometimes get a little crowded, but the staff seems to always keep the food coming. And the staff as a whole is very helpful.

The rooms here are really a dichotomy. Those in the main building are charming, attractive, reasonably spacious, and very southwestern: rustic wooden headboards, attractive and comfortable furnishings, and kiva fireplaces. The bathrooms are attractive with clay tile floors, but kind of small. The lobby is comfortable, inviting, and a nice place to sit and read or hang out. If you have one of the main building rooms, the entrances are through interior hallways, you can just walk downstairs to this lobby, and it all feels like a cozy inn. If you get them at the right time, the prices can be discounted and these rooms can be a great value, even if they are not particularly cheap. I think these rooms are called the deluxe rooms

On the other hand, the inn has a lot of rooms that are part of separate buildings on the same property. These are the more standard rooms, and they are pretty pedestrian in my view. While attractive and nicely furnished, the ones I have been in are small and cramped with the beds and furniture. You put a family with all their stuff in those rooms, and it's tight. The ambiance is more like a standard motel room than a nice inn. Many of these rooms have exterior entrances, adding to the motel feel. These rooms still have access to the lobby and the breakfast, but you have to walk outside so it doesn't have the same ambiance.

Parking is free, which is nice. The downside: Parking can be cramped. I doubt they have room for all the cars when the rooms are all occupied, but maybe there's an ancillary parking lot nearby.

Breakfast aside, the hotel does not really have its own restaurant, although they do have a bar that serves bar food. The bar seems to draw an energetic, young crowd in the evenings. There are plenty of great restaurants within walking distance for a true dining experience if that is what you seek.

I have stayed at the Inn of the Governors several times over the past few years. I definitely would return. Personally, I would try to stay in the deluxe rooms if at all possible.
