5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Lovely hotel, perfectly located for anyone who prefers walking around the city. Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. Rooms were well appointed and quiet. The bar/restaurant had better food than it had to and the margaritas very tasty. The hotel had a sherry tasting every day at 4 which was a wonderful break from "touristing." Excellent breakfast buffet.

This is a 1960s-style motel located in downtown Santa Fe (about two blocks easy walk to Santa Fe's famous plaza). Although perhaps 50 years old, the property has been very well maintained and updated. The room was quite satisfactory and, as our daughter who lives in Santa Fe said, it is the kind of room one should expect in a Santa Fe hostelry.

The best part of the stay, however, was the breakfast buffet, which I would rank as the best "free" hotel breakfast we have ever had - right up there with what one might expect on a cruise ship. Two kinds of scrambled eggs, quesadilla slices, hash browns done just right, generous bacon and sausage, several kinds of cereal, breads for toasting and Danish pastries. The orange juice was fresh-squeezed! The wait staff was professional and attentive, unlike that of many hotels that offer "free" breakfasts.

On a slightly different note, parking is at a premium in downtown Santa Fe, so the motel's parking lot is a little cramped and hard to negotiate, and the parking spaces tend to be a little narrow, especially for full-size sedans and SUVs. Not impossible, just a little tight.

Pricing is good for downtown Santa Fe. An adjacent property just to the north of this motel has lower room rates, but they charge extra for parking, and breakfast is generally not included, so Inn of the Governors is a good value for the type of rooms supplied and the "free" amenities of parking and an excellent breakfast experience.

I love staying here. The rooms are cozy and the food is excellent! Even though it is pretty loud because of the all the business of the people and traffic, it's centralized location makes it convenient to walk to the plaza and do a lot of shopping. Overall, a great place to stay in Santa Fe.

We recently stayed for 4 days. Our room was small but quaint. Had a fireplace so some ambiance. The housekeeping staff and front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff was another story. At breakfast we had to find a waiter to bring us beverages. And glasses in the bar consistently were not clean. Lipstick still on edges. Food particles stuck to side. We pointed this out to the bar manager and he assured us that they would work harder at checking them. Next evening we went in and watched. Same old. Out of washer. Hung up on rack. Did not check them at all. Every other restaurant we visited here checked each glass as it came out of washer. People with comprised immune systems, beware.

Room Tip: We had read several of the other reviews so did ask for a quiet room away from the traffic and the g...

The Inn of the Governors is ideally located and parking is free. We met Ken at our check-in and he continued to serve us throughout the evening. He made dinner reservations, found a lost glove and located Honda dealership repair. Our room was upstairs with a fireplace and a balcony. A word of balcony caution: the door can lock behind you. A call to the front desk quickly brought a staffer to rescue us. Of course it was a perfect morning with a fine view so our time on the balcony was easy. Excellent beds and pillows.

My family of four really enjoyed our stay at the Inn of the Governors. Great Santa Fe look/feel with very friendly/helpful staff. The location is wonderful as is the breakfast (well above average). Nice, clean, and homey. ALL of us would recommend.

We chose this hotel because of its location which is a short walk to the plaza area. Also offer free continental breakfast daily, $15 food credit daily, free wifi and free parking. Also free sherry in the afternoons but we skipped it. The staff are all very friendly and it is a beautiful hotel, very clean and well maintained. Parking can be a bit tight but we managed.

We stayed 2 nights in a superior king room with a kiva. It wasn’t an overly large room, not spacious by any means, but okay for a short stay, nicely decorated and very clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The desk was very small and not convenient for using a laptop, had to clear everything off the desk. But I don’t think it’s a big issue unless you plan on staying longer or for business. I had to move the arm chair out of the way to access the desk. The bathroom was so very small that it was just painful! Only one person at a time in the bathroom and even that was a squeeze, and we’re people of average height/build. So it was a problem for us. The door touches your knees while on the toilet. Also to access the shower the door has to be shut. Just hope that someone doesn’t enter while you are on the toilet or getting out of the shower. (I've posted photos).

The breakfast was great with lots of options. Hotel seems to be a stop on a bus tour so we had lots of people vying for tables in the mornings. But there is plenty of seating just that no one wanted to sit in the courtyard, chilly mornings. We had 2 dinners at the Del Charro and used the $15 food credit both nights. It’s a popular place for the locals and really lively. Really good food and great margaritas! Good place to chill out.

For a superior king room it was small, smaller than expected. Makes me wonder about the size of the traditional rooms in comparison. I can't help feeling a little disappointed after all the great reviews this hotel has received.

Dear L2TBug101,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us.

My apologies that the room size did not meet your expectations. Our traditional rooms are almost the same size as the superior. Although the traditional rooms do have a different bathroom configuration with the vanity area outside of the commode/shower space. We do also offer 2 larger room types - Deluxe and Mini Suites with more space for desk and sitting areas.

We are glad to know you found the staff friendly and the property beautiful, clean and well maintained.

We hope to see you again!
