“Premier spot in Santa Fe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Not only is the Inn of the Governors one of the most convenient spots to stay in terms of being close to all that the city center offers, but it feels like an oasis even though you know there is traffic outside your door. The decor, the helpfulness of the staff, the lovely enclosed pool area with high walls and a garden feel, the afternoon tea and sherry, all combine to make you feel like you're in a resort even though you are steps from the Plaza.

The patio with fireplace is great for breakfast or an afternoon margarita.

Perhaps one of the most positive aspects is having Ken Taylor work at reception and concierge. He has a wealth of knowledge about the city and the culture and never tires of answering questions or making dining recommendations.

Although we have stayed in other places in Santa Fe, we have stayed at the Inn for years and would not consider any place else.

Room Tip: Have always stayed in a Deluxe or Superior room which probably receive less traffic noise than Tradi...

My wife and I went to Santa Fe from September 26th to the 30th. The first day we arrived close to midnight because of transportation problems. The following morning, during breakfast, we noticed that the hotel was packed with tourists, the service was very friendly, and yet at noon there were very few people in the premises and we had the pool to ourselves. The Inn is located in the heart of town, where the action is, after visiting a number of galleries at mid afternoon we had free tea, sherry and biscuits in the hotel lobby. The restaurant is inexpensive, serve traditional food and full of local people.

Room Tip: At night the temperature drops, ask for rooms with fireplace.

We were made to feel "at home" the moment we arrived. The rooms were clean and quiet. All the staff -including those in the dining and lounge area- were very friendly and extremely helpful. This was our firsr trip to Santa Fe.Great first impression. Excellent location.

This is a terrific place. The location cannot be beat. From any direction, you are in the heart of Santa Fe and its shopping district. The rooms, although very small, have beautiful attention to detail. They include bottles of water with the Inn of the Governors logo that they only charge $1.00 for. NICE! They have nice bathroom amenities, plush bathrobes, big fluffy pool towels, and very nice service folks. We are a tad concerned over why ear plugs were provided but the ice machine noise was not as bad as we thought!! The afternoon Sherry and cookies is a nice touch and the breakfast buffet includes everything you could possible want including two kinds of eggs, 3 breakfast meats, fresh cut fruit, juice, coffee, french toast, oatmeat etc. There is a delightful young lady that clears plates and busses tables. There is plenty of seating including a partially enclosed outdoor area that is beautiful including a wonderful wood burning fireplace. This area transforms into the dining room and bar in the evening and is a fun place to come back to at the end of the day and have a night cap. You will love it! Very comfy....

Room Tip: Try a room with a fireplace. Avoid room 218 it is next to the ice machine!

Although this place is a bit long in the tooth (tiny elevator, a bit worn in spots, and a baths in need of reworking) I would recommend this place to anyone. Located only 2 blocks from the Plaza, the location is wonderful and parking is included. The breakfasts are a definite cut above any other included "continental" breakfast I've had. We got upgraded to a mini-suite for our Anniversary and enjoyed the small balcony and ample space. The room furnishings were clean, leather seating was comfortable, and the place was laid-out with the traveler's best interest at heart. My only gripe with the place (which I'm sure they are aware of) is the late check-in (4PM) and the very low bathroom vanities. Modern hotels have learned that kitchen counter height vanities just make sense unless you are a toddler. The front desk staff (after you FINALLY got into your room were wonderful, making reservations for dining, guiding you to destinations and going the extra mile for requests. We were astounded that they seemed to be able to do ANYTHING to help their guests! Thanks to my former student for the tip on this place! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: upgrading to a minisuite facing the East (parking area) is not as bad as it sounds. Wake up to the s...

Same nice experience guys, same. This time, we enjoyed better rooms and accommodations; it looks that reviews work and the guys in Inn of Governors are professionals, they take them under consideration. They even arranged a difficult “timing request” right away; although it was arranged by emailing to general manager, Sam Gerberding responded in no time, like “in person”. We thank him and them, greatly. However, if you sense a cold atmosphere in this review, your sense is not wrong, ha! Personally, I would leave alone a little incident that happened at the early registration, and I would name it “female sensitivities” and “persistence without essence”. The incident cause, our early registration, was finally arranged very well and professionally, we are very pleased and we will surely go back, no question about it!

Room Tip: No tips! You can walk in with closed eyes!

Could not have ask for a better location everything in walking distance. A full breakfast was included every morning and it was excellent. Additionally their grill was a nice size and they are noted for the house Margarita.... again excellent.
Would agree with others on room size a little small... but location wins over that.
