“Excellent Value and Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

Stayed here 3 nights during the first week of April with my husband. As others have mentioned, Del Charros has delicious, freshly prepared food at very inexpensive prices. Besides the included breakfast buffet, we chose to eat here at least one other meal per day using the resort credit and liked each of those meals better than the others we had off property. Rooms are dark but decor is atmospheric and the kiva fireplace is wonderful. lt snowed while we were here and the staff kept the pinion pine wood constantly refilled. Tea and sherry service each afternoon is a nice touch. Everything is very clean and location is ideal to everywhere. Beds are a bit too soft for me, but that is a personal preference. If we ever come back to Santa Fe, we will definitely stay again.

On behalf of my wife and our friends from the UK who we were travelling with, we have to say the 2 nights at Inn of the Governors was one of the accommodation highlights of our 3 week road trip. Excellent location near the Plaza, on-site parking, afternoon sherry, fabulous breakfast (sets you up for the day), very comfortable unique rooms, and friendly helpful staff. The manager made excellent recommendations of places to eat and sites to see - he is doing a great job making this hotel a top place to stay in Santa Fe.

The on-site restaurant (Del Charo) is good (can be noisy). If you want to mix with locals for top New Mexican food try Tomasita's - you'll inevitbly have to wait for a table, but it's worth it.

We stayed here at our first road trip around the US, and just had to come back . It is a great hotel, a block from the plaza, with small but very comfortable rooms. Staff are great and very helpful. Booking online (direct) got us a very good rate, with a $25 credit at El Charro saloon. Breakfast was the best included breakfast we had in all the US. El Charro gets busy, so if you want a seat, get there early. Happy hour prices good as well.

We chose this hotel because of the great reviews on TripAdvisor. Stayed for seven nights while touring New Mexico. Inn of the Governors is an old motel that’s been updated and decorated in Santa Fe style. It even has a swimming pool. The location is excellent: within walking distance to everything in Old Town. Some days we didn’t even use the car. The parking is free, which is unheard of in Santa Fe. Breakfast is included with price of the room. There is an excellent selection of food, and the staff keeps it clean and fully stocked. There is free wifi and three computers in the lobby that are free to use. The restaurant downstairs (Del Charro) is tavern-style food. Book online and get $25. credit per day toward any meal here. If you make it back to the hotel by 4:00 in the afternoon, they serve sherry, hot tea, cookies and refreshing iced cucumber water. Rooms are very comfortable. Bathrooms are small but clean and efficient. Always enough hot water, excellent water pressure in the shower, and good drainage, so you’re not standing in a tub of water. Our room (225) did not have a fireplace or balcony, but was spacious even with a king-sized bed. Housekeeping did an excellent job. When I had difficulty sleeping because of the dry air, they provided a humidifier which helped. We had no complaints at all during our week’s stay and felt it was excellent value for the money. Highly recommend Inn of the Governors to anyone traveling to Santa Fe.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The close proximity to the plaza and free parking was a plus. The staff was friendly and courteous, breakfast (included) was delicious, the room was great. Especially enjoyed the fireplace. Will definitely return.

I think my review will be in line with the other positive reviews. My friend and I primarily chose this because it was one of the few plaza-close inns in Santa Fe that offered two beds in the room (I think due to the historic size of the other Inns, most rooms other than suites couldn't accommodate two beds). The free parking and free breakfast were a plus too.

here are the extra special items that brought this from a 3 start to 4 star review for me - they may be minor, but they were nice.
--Helpful concierge - ready with maps, booklets, pamphlets
--On the last day we checked out by the noon time, but wanted to get lunch before driving back to ABQ; they let us keep the car in the lot for another two hours
--The rooms were clean, and ours was mostly quiet (we had an interior room, as requested) - some street noise but that would happen with any hotel near the road, which most are. I don't think the delivery trucks only drove past the Inn of Governors then magically skipped the other hotels. Also the bathroom, while small, was well appointed and the had robes for us in the closet. Hair dryer was good too (this is always something I judge - not just one of those terrible wall units, but a real hair dryer).
--The breakfast was a nice start to the day - nothing fancy but all the basics - eggs, fruit, sausage or bacon, cereals, toast... my friend and I just wanted something quick and healthy before our hikes and this did the trick
--The location to the plaza was great; it's just around the corner from the Inn of St Francis, and just a short stroll to the plaza center.

We missed it one day, but be sure to have at least one day to enjoy the Tea & Sherry happy hour - they will let you take your drink and cookie by the pool and it's a nice way to end the day/start the evening.

The Inn of the Governor is well-located, an easy few minute walk to the heart of town. We stayed in the main building which they told us at check-in was an up-grade. The price was great and included a lovely fresh breakfast and a $25 credit to spend on food or drinks. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was crisp. The pool size was roomy and always heated. The room size was adequate but with a small window and very small bathroom. The television stations were limited. My only criticism is that the carpets were dirty, both in the lounge area at check-in and in the hallways. If you are sensitive to dust as I am, it was annoying. This issue can be easily remedied; clean the rugs more often. The room and bathroom size can't be fixed. I give it a high rating because of the location, price and what you get for it. All of which make it very attractive.
