“Why stay anywhere else? (Unless it's Four Kachinas!)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2008

If you want to have the experience of how a bed and breakfast is SUPPOSED to be, do not go any farther than El Farolito or Four Kachinas. These two properties are top notch. If the owners are not there, the staff who work there are very knowledgeable. The
beds are so comfortable, you don't really want to get out of bed, except the other b--breakfast--you would not want to miss! Wayne of El Farolito and Walter of Four Kachinas surround their properties with wonderful art and many special touches. My husband and I have stayed in dozens of B&B's and find these two properties to be the epitomy of what should be expected in a quality bed and breakfast inn.

My wife and I spent four nights at El Farolito B&B in March, 2008. The room(s) were perfect - clean, well decorated and extremely comfortable. Loved the kiva fireplace and sheltered patio. Service was excellent and everyone at the inn went out of their way to make us feel at home. The inn is close enough to walk to the plaza area, but far enough to be out of the general tourist hustle and bustle. They were able to offer great suggestions for things to do and see and places to dine in Sante Fe and Taos. Would definitely recommend El Farolito to other travelers.
El Farolito is listed in the Select Registry of Distinguished Inns of North American - a resource we have found to be very useful for planning 3-4 day trips.

I just go back from a great trip to Santa Fe. We stayed at the El Farolito and it was wonderful! The rooms are very cozy and homey feeling. We stayed in the Casita La Paz which turned out to be one of the smallest rooms. The room was plenty big for two people. The fireplace in the room was so fun to have and the room had a nice skylight that made the room feel airy. I found everyone who worked there to be very helpful and nice. We were heading out to a "fancy" breakfast one morning and were urged to stay for their free breakfast. We were skeptical, but we did eat there and it was fantastic! The breakfast they serve everyone morning is delicious! Overall the stay was great and could not of asked for more!

My husband and I planned a weekend getaway for my birthday and because of the special occasion wanted it to be particularly nice. We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at El Farolito. While we try to get to Santa Fe every other year, this was our first time at El Farolito, but certainly won't be our last. There are several reasons why our stay turned out to be so remarkable.

First, the owners and staff (we mostly interacted with Wayne and Danna) are exceptionally friendly and helpful and create a warm, hospitable atmosphere while respecting the guests' privacy. For example, because it was my birthday, my children called the inn and arranged for the owners to have fresh flowers in the room and one of my favorite wines chilled in the refrigerator. In addition to those items, they purchased a lovely card and wrote a message from our children. It was a wonderful surprise and done in a top notch manner. The owners also were great about helping us select restaurants and making reservations in advance of our stay. (We particularly enjoyed LaBoca, Mucho Gusto, and sampling the margaritas at Maria's.) I also observed them helping first time visitors to Santa Fe figure out what they might like to do. They are very knowledgeable and provided a wealth of quality information

Second, this is a very classy property in all respects. The rooms, which are located in casitas spread out on the property, are tastefully decorated, spacious, and immaculate. The quality reminded me of top notch boutique hotels I've stayed at, except that the rooms are so much larger. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the linens of the highest quality, and the original art work that is present throughout a nice touch. We loved that we had a fireplace that was stocked with firewood and easy to use, had a refrigerator filled with waters (no charges like in some of those high class hotels), had a small coffeemaker, and a separate entrance off a good size patio. Unfortunately the weather didn't permit us to use the patio, but what a nice feature to have a private, outside area in which to relax and read. The common areas, including the grounds, are well maintained and decorated/landscaped in the highest quality manner. I'm sure in the late spring/summer when the trees and flowers are out, the property is even more attractive.

Third, the breakfasts are incredibly delicious! The selection is quite large and the area where it is served is beautifully decorated with classy linens and dishes and original artwork. They have a wonderful baker so there was always an assortment of home baked goodies. In addition, they served beautiful fresh fruit and an egg based entree, along with cereals, yogurts, etc. The late afternoon brought fresh teas and coffees and home baked cookies, a nice treat after touring around Santa Fe. We found ourselves lingering over breakfast to talk with other guests who were interesting and came from diverse places, including Japan.

For those of you debating where to stay in Santa Fe, I'd say go no further than El Farolito. I had considered staying at the Inn of the Anasazi, but was deterred by the prices. While I am sure the rooms there are nice (though probably not superior to those at El Farolito) and I love the margaritas at the bar, staying at El Farolito was such a better choice! And it certainly far outshines a couple of other bed and breakfasts I've stayed at over the years, including Pueblo Bonito which inexplicably gets high marks on Trip Advisor for reasons I can't understand. Next time we travel to Santa Fe, I know exactly where I'll book a room!

Just returned from a fabulous weekend in Santa Fe which was made even more enjoyable by our experience at El Farolito. The inn is comprised of small casita type rooms with fireplaces that made for wonderful evenings upon our return from the city.
The inn is within easy walking distance of all of the attractions and restaurants in Santa Fe.
The owner (Wayne) was on property and proved most helpful in helping us plan our day and meals.
Their breakfasts were plentiful and delightful. A great way to start your day in Santa Fe,.
The hospitality was outstanding.
We are repeat visitors to both El Farolito and their sister property Four Kachinas and will be again!
