“Lovely and quaint get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2012

We just returned from our stay in Santa Fe at the Don Gaspar. We stayed in their Santa Fe suite and it was wonderful. It's so nice to have extra space and a refrigerator and microwave. The heated floor in the bathroom area is so nice and really keeps the suite toasty. The fireplace also provides a good deal of heat...almost too much. Ana and Peter were our hosts during our stay and they both are wonderful. It was so nice sharing conversation with them over breakfast and all the help they gave us with things to do around Santa Fe. They are both great cooks and we miss having them make us breakfast. I just wish our trip was later in the spring so we could see the lovely courtyard in full bloom. This is the only place I want to stay while in Santa Fe. Thanks for making our trip so comfortable.

Room Tip: The setup at the Don Gaspar is great so any of the suites will work. It will all depend on how big...

We stayed for 4 nights and without asking were offered a better suite as we had 2 kids sharing the sofa bed .The hospitality was excellent and Peter helped plan a day trip with multi stops to Taos - better than the guide book ! . Ana made a wonderful Mexican egg dish one morning for breakfast .The suite had everything we needed including a DVD player and although there is a limited selection of DVDs to borrow so Peter went out to rent one for us The Malegro Bean Field War - a must see if you are not local --a bit cheesy but it is set in the Sante Fe area - real service .It snowed whilst we stayed and the suite was warm and cosy
future improvements ? -Internet needs to be boosted ,
We would come back

There are some very nice features to the Inn. First, the location is great--you can park your vehicle and never have to use it again until it is time to leave, if you like to do a little walking. It was also pretty quiet--we were there over the new year's holiday so the elementary school (right next door) was out. We stayed in the courtyard casita, which was spacious and had a comfortable bed. Food at breakfast was very nice. But there are some things travelers should be aware of: First, if wireless (phone/internet) is important to you, reception is very spotty. I should note that I asked about this beforehand and the staff was honest about reception. This issue isn't only relative to the Inn, but it seemed all of Santa Fe, so if you are traveling on business, you should be aware of this. The hours for breakfast are limited--about an hour and a half (8 to 9:30 AM), and there are no shades/curtains in the breakfast room, so if you sit facing the sun you will be blinded. This was an issue for us, as well as others in the breakfast room, and the staff jokingly noted that Santa Fe was sunny for most days of the year. Makes you wonder why they don't install shades as it is clearly an issue for guests on a daily basis--it is so bad that guests need to change seats every morning. Housekeeping--housekeeping comes early, I believe as early as 10 AM. When we checked in, we were told that if you put the "do not disturb" sign on your door you wouldn't get housekeeping. However, we were told that if we informed the inn staff that we wanted housekeeping later than 10, it could be arranged. On day one at breakfast, we mentioned that we wanted housekeeping after 10:30, and the staff immediately asked if the housekeeper could clean the room while we were eating. Of course that didn't work for us as we had left personal items out in the room. Sounded like housekeeping is done at the convenience of the staff, not the guests. Given that breakfast is so early, we wanted to have an hour to get ready (and get out of our room) before housekeeping arrived. We didn't think it was that big of a deal. Anna said that was fine, they would come after 10:30. Of course, we returned to our room and at 10:00 the housekeeper knocked on the door. I told them that we asked for after 10:30 and the housekeeper said she was never notified. In addition, when we checked in, we were told that there was an issue with the soaker tub in the bathroom--that it wasn't holding water as it should (leaking out back into the pipes), but that someone would be by to fix it. No one ever came by to fix the problem. And the courtyard casita has beautiful stained glass windows on one side--facing east. But no curtains or shades for those windows. So the room was like a greenhouse in the morning. We asked if something could be done about this and the inn did provide us with eyeshades. We left the eyeshades at the Inn, so they should be available (washed) for the next guests--make sure you ask for them if you're staying at that casita. Basically, some small touches and courtesies that you would normally get at a hotel (at comparable prices) simply were not found. Another example is the coffee provided at the casita--big coffee pot like for your own kitchen, which was great. But no coffee filters were found. I loved Santa Fe but will select another inn next time. One other item to remember when planning your trip to Santa Fe (especially over the holidays) is to book restaurants before you arrive--because you wont' get reservations at the best places with a day or two's notice.

Everything about the accommodations and hospitality exceeded our expectations. The property is charming, conveniently located, and extremely maintained. As a owner of three vacation rentals myself, I was thoroughly impressed down to every detail! The breakfasts were wonderful and being a vegetarian, I really appreciated the staff accommodating my diet. The entire staff was friendly and ready to please. I highly recommend this inn.....a great value and perfect in every way.

We are adding the Don Gaspar Inn to the list of our Santa Fe favorites. It is a lovely, clean, and comfortable inn close to downtown and with a great, enthusiastic staff. The Kuchina Suite, tastefully done in a southwestern decor, is perfect for a couple. The chill of November evenings was warmed by both the gas fireplace and the heated bathroom floor. Anna's and Pete's breakfast entrees, complete with hot chiles and salsas, did not disappoint. We definitely recommend the inn and will stay here again on our next visit.

Our first time in Santa Fe, and we found the Don Gaspar Inn on Trip Advisor. It was very nice, quiet, and overall a wonderful Inn. While it seemed a little pricey, they accommodated our special requests, sent us a Santa Fe guide, and served us a great New Mexican breakfast. The room setup and beds were great. It was the end of October and turned cold, but the rooms were very comfortable. We will definitely stay here again.

It was a beautiful inn with a perfect location. We enjoyed our stay there immensely. The food was good but not amazing. If you are looking for a more gourmet breakfast, this is not the place. However, it was a nice breakfast with a hot item, fruit and an assortment of bread and cereal. If you are not picky about getting a great breakfast, it is perfect.
