2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

There was very little hot water in the shower. Though our room was non-smoking, the smell from the smoking rooms overwhelmed our room. The "breakfast" advertised was coffee and toast. Maid service was not a daily routine. Towels were always in shortage. The hallways were not well heated. Beds are rather hard. In retrospect I probably would have spent a few extra dollars to go to a different place.

We stayed here in December and the place was $120 for 4 nights so was a great value for money base whilst we were in Santa Fe. The room was clean and we had two queen sized beds in our room. Bathrrom was nice and we had clean towels.
There wasn't a tea or coffee making facility in the room but there was ample coffee in the lobby.
Good up to date furniture and beds, wifi was easy to access and we were happy to get a good clean nights sleep. If you have sensitive ears, invest in a set of ear plugs, but apart from the busy main road, no complaints by us.

On our cross country trip from Sedona, AZ to Springfield, MA, we didn't get far on day #1. (Spent too much time in the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest!). We decided to bite the bullet and stay in Santa Fe rather than take a chance on what motels might be available in northern NM. Figured we would find only high priced hotels in Santa Fe. Imagine our surprise to see a sign - $49.95 a night! The staff was very friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. The staff even gave us a discount coupon to the Mexican restaurant around the corner - The Blue Corn Brewery. Another great find!

This was a basic, inexpensive place to stay. Upon entering the front door there was a very strong smell of disinfectants. Our room was the same. It was very clean, but we had to open the window for several hours to clear out the odor. We were in a non-smoking room, but off and on I could smell cigarette smoke, possibly from the room downstairs. We were in town to visit family, so spent little time in the room. The Wi-Fi did not work well in our room. We had a stronger signal from the hotel next door, but unfortunately did not have the password to it.
Since the cost was only $50 a night, I did not have high expectations. If you just need an inexpensive place for a night or 2 and don't need anything fancy, then this may work for you.

Before arriving in Santa Fe today, we spent last night in a grotesque hotel in Pecos TX, grossly overpriced at $78 (for a Motel 6!) and were told we were lucky to get any sort of room in this town. Broken remote and wifi, (when I went to the office to ask about this, the gal said she was busy with check ins and would reboot when she had time. Which never happened even into the next morning). Also, greasy smelling and feeling towels,, cramped room and oil roughnecks all over the parking lot and cooking outside their rooms with a lot full of 100s of broken glass beer bottles as our view next door. ICK!!!

How delightful and what a contrast to land at this Red Roof Inn in Santa Fe and in particular to immediately meet Mike at the front desk.

We were worried about walking in at 1 PM, thoroughly expecting to be chased away until 3. Ahhh...there was the sign "1 pm check in".

We had called ahead and made reservations on the 800 number but got cut off towards the end, but hey, when I explained to Mike about that, he just jumped on the computer and found us before I even gave him our name. He efficiently and pleasantly checked us in. My husband was looking for a restroom in the lobby. There aren't any but no big deal to Mike, he quickly created a key, while juggling his other tasks and and then propmtly handed my husband the room key as I went on with the check in details. How nice!

He accommodated our request for the first floor and was pleasant and helpful on every way.

When asking him about dining, after asking what we might be interested in (local food but nearby where we wouldnt have to deal with getting back out in too much traffic) he made a recommendation that is in walking distance which is exactly what we wanted (Blue Corn Brewery - turned out to be authentic and delicious!) and he even handed us a $5 off coupon after we said it sounded good and we'd try it.

It's CLEAN! The room is SPACIOUS! It is in a upscale area on Cerillos Rd (safe, no crazy lots of broken beer bottles) and a 15 min drive will get us to the downtown square. The remote works and has about 50 channels, the wifi works!

About 15 mins after check in, Mike called the room to ask if everything was ok! We did in fact have a question about the on TV guide, so it was really nice that he called and we didn't have to go to the desk.

All of this cost $54 at the senior rate! Unbelieveable contrast to the night before and to stay in lovely Santa Fe for that amount (and its CLEAN! And nice area) is just great for those passing through or who don't want to spend all their money on the ridiculously upscale places to sleep but want to see Santa Fe over a few days.

Congratulations Red Roof Inn!

Room Tip: Get the first floor if you can, only down side I can see is there is no elevator, so you would climb...

Wow, my experience at the Red Roof Inn was very different from that of some of the other reviewers. The AC and cable in our room worked just fine, and we found the front desk staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. Can’t comment on the breakfast, as when I’m in Santa Fe I always try to head straight for Tecolote, Harry’s, or the Southside Cafe for my favorite meal of the day! We interacted with two different front desk managers during our stay. Both were very friendly; my family and I must have chatted with the check-in person for half an hour. If you’re looking for a destination hotel with Santa Fe charm, this is most definitely not the place for you. However, if you’re just looking for a very inexpensive hotel that’s basic, clean, functional, and friendly, I’d definitely recommend it as a nice place to lay down your head, and from which to launch your Santa Fe adventures.

Red Roof Inn in Santa Fe was what you would expect, basic, inexpensive, no great views, but clean and comfortable, working AC, etc. However, we were particularly taken by the caring staff in the way they handled a stray cat who had been hanging around the front door for several days. This cat was so sweet and friendly, and had obviously been owned at one point and then abandoned. The front desk staff, after caring for the cat for several days and keeping it safe, took her to the local animal shelter, where they were assured a speedy adoption due to her sweet disposition and people-friendly personality. (I came within minutes of wanting to take the cat back the cat home to NY, but that would have been inappropriate). All in all, these are the type of caring people I wish we had more of. We had to cut our stay in Santa Fe short, and the staff helped us navigate our refund through Expedia and didn't charge us extra for a day that technically they could have. I thought all-in-all the staff was nice and friendly. I see some not-so-nice reviews about the staff here, and that simply was not our experience at all. Perhaps there was a recent staff change.
