“Only circular capitol in the country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

This is a truly unique building for those used to the typical domed capitol building. The circular rotunda with the state seal is definitely different.

“Capitol visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

I was born and raised in NM and have never visited the State Capitol Building. I got to take my grandson with me this time thru Santa Fe. It is very beautiful. the House and Senate weren't in session, but we looked in the chambers anyway. All the artwork is beautiful also. Glad we got to stop by and look.

“Amazing Building”

First, the architecture of this building was unbelievable - it was round. Second, the art collection was amazing. It was a pleasant experience.

“Great Art Collection and Wonderful Building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

My wife and I visited the New Mexico State Capitol while in Santa Fe recently. Admission is free and you can get a guide and information by entering the East entrance. The free parking is also located on the east side, just off of Paseo de Peraulta. It is recommended to start on the top floor and work down. There are many pieces of Southwestern art throughout the building, but there are also pieces of other artistic styles. Even if you are not a fan of art, the pieces here will have widespread appeal. At the top of the rotunda is a flag to represent each of New Mexico's 33 counties.

The Roundhouse is different than other state capitals that I have visited as it isn't built in a variation of Greek or Roman architecture. It was built in the 60s, with an expansion add at a later time. Make sure to check out the North expansion, as well as the grounds.

TIP: Across the street (to the West) is the Bataan Memorial Museum.

TIP 2: This is a great place to park and walk to many of downtown Santa Fe's attractions, shops and restaurants.

“Don't Miss Attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

I certainly agree with the other reviewers about the openness of the State Capitol. I was pleasantly surprised at being able to walk freely about and explore this incredible building. The security guard at the desk gave us a brochure and told us about works that we missed in a passage to the parking lot. The exceptional art works focus on New Mexican subjects. The highlight is a display of contemporary quilts which are magnificent to behold. Well worth the trip.
