This is a tough to find place about a mile of so from the Plaza, but it is worth seeking out if you are interested in a soup and/or sandwich lunch. Look for the blue awning. My wife and i eat here often. The food is always fresh and made fully in-house, including the smoking of the meats.
Many of the soups are rotated daily, so you must look at the chalk boards at each end of the restaurant to see what is available. Almost all the soups are very good, but some that I recall we especially liked include: Hungarian mushroom, barley mushroom, sweet pepper bisque, cream of asparagus and chicken matzo-ball. Only the chile-corn soup seemed somewhat bland.
My favorite sandwich is the Reuben—it is not huge, but the meat is excellent and the proportions of ingredients is near perfect for me. I also have enjoyed the pastrami on rye and the tuna melt. My wife loves their accompanying potato salad.
We find the desserts to be good as well. This includes the carrot cake and the brownies.
