“What a Fabulous rehearsal dinner !!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

I gave a rehearsal dinner for my son and his bride to be for 106 people at Rio Chama last week .Each guest could choose from 4 entrees ,they were perfectly cooked ,delicious and beautiful .
It is not easy to pull off a party like that !
The event co-ordinator Juli was fantastic! We had our own private bar and the private dinning room was great .
It is difficult to have an intimate gathering and emotional event ,that does not seem like a big imposing banquet ,but Rio Chama did it with flying colors and I cannot wait to go back and have a dinner for two ! Penny Pollock

“You can do so much better in Santa Fe”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Took a friend to Rio Chama for his birthday. Wanted to go some place more on the upscale side. I had been several times in the past only for drinks but found that during busy hours the noise level in the bar reaches uncomfortable levels. It doesn't help the ambiance that there are large screen TVs on every wall.
But we were going early(ish) at 5pm during the week between tourist seasons so we decided to give the place a try. Service was rushed even though the place was nearly empty. The server was generally uninformed about the drink selections. The guacamole and chips were totally uninspired and overpriced at $11.00.
The selection of beers on tap is paltry. Disappointing for Santa Fe which has several high quality micro breweries. For dinner I ordered the vegeburger and my friend the buffalo short rib, $10 and $11. The burger couldn't have been less interesting and it came solo on a plate. No sides. If you want fries or chips that is an additional charge. The buffalo short rib was a single boneless brick of meat about 4" x 1" x 2". Again looking lonely on a large plate. When I asked how it tasted I got a shrug in reply.
When the bill arrived you had to wonder what you were paying for...
And here is the answer. The state legislature is directly next door. Once a year the legislature is in session for either 30 or 60 days. During that time this place is packed with lawmakers and lobbyists. And there you have it. This place functions off of expense account types.
In a foodie town like Santa Fe you can do so much better with your money and come away feeling rewarded and indulged rather than victimized. Adios Rio Chama.

“Good food in the bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We split a steak sandwich and lighter menu items in the bar and this was perfect. Solid food and good ambience. The restaurant is attractive and there are real, honest to god etchings on the walls depicting western themes. Very few commercial establishments put up real art. Bravo!

“Yum!”

Excellent food, with half-size salad portions and great atmosphere. Park across the street in the government lot after business hours for a short walk to the restaurant!
