I dined on July 3 at Cafe Pasqual's before heading to the Santa Fe Opera that evening. I do not live in Santa Fe, but mange to get there once every year or two for a long weekend. I had not eaten at Cafe Pasqual's in a few years, but always have remembered it as a Santa Fe favorite. For that reason , I booked a table there for my family for dinner. While the food and overall experience were not bad, there was nothing special at all about the dinner. There were 5 in our party and all, with the exception of one found the food to be average at best. The two dishes that were enjoyed by our group were the Spanish Omeletter (a special appetizer that evening) and the fish (haddock, I think) tacos. Everything else was less than notable, including the tamales, the scallops and the beef skewers. Okay, but just not great at all and fairly bland. This is disappointing because one always wants an interesting experience at a place like this, particularly given the prices....The service was also just adequate. Our waiter seemed in a rush and a bit impatient when we would ask him questions, or for help with the menu. Perhpas we should have stuck with this restaurant for the breakfasts, which we hear are great. However, given the terrific restaurants Santa Fe has to offer, this one is off my dinner list.
