“Look Famaliar? It should”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

Bonanza Creek Movie Ranch has been the "set" for movies since the first "movie town" was built for "Silverado" and rebuilt for the TV series "Lucky Luke." There is a "movie town" that you might recognize from "Silverado" in 1983 or "Cowboys and Aliens" or dozens of movies in between.
Each production essentially redesigns the town to meet the period of the story and the necessities of the plot.
Our guide, retired Navy photographer, respected amateur historian, and local rancher Matthew H. was able to show us how they will reimage buildings form one period to the next. One example: 1868 jail cell bars were radically different from 1887 jail cell bars.
After several hours at the movie town, we drove to the "Spanish Fort" (the only set with facades), then on to the "home set" with a variety of buildings from different movies set in different periods, from the gorgeous house from "All the Pretty Horses" to the barn from "Astronaut Farmer" with a stop along the way at the cabin from "Cowboys and Aliens."
If you're a Western movie fan, this is a fascinating look into who movies get made on location and a nostalgic visit to some very familiar scenes.
In addition to movie making and tours, they provide a social event venue (western theme corporate parties or weddings) and sets for photo shoots.
